Donald S. Macbeth

Donald Seaton Macbeth was born in Ogden, Utah on June 9, 1919 to Arthur and Opal Mae Waldram Macbeth. Donald attended Ogden High School through his junior year, when the family moved to Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1939. Don was active in boxing, football, and track and field while in high school.

On June 17, 1941, Don married his eternal partner Genevieve Wright in Logan, Utah. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 10, 1958. Donald and Genevieve were blessed with three children, Winfield Arthur Macbeth, Stephen Donald Macbeth, and Kathleen Macbeth-Hall.

Don served for five years in the Army during WWII in the European Theater, where he reached the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. While overseas, Don served with the 19th Engineers, 2nd Corp., 5th Army in Africa, Sicily, and Italy. During this time, Don was involved in four major invasions and six major campaigns. In 1945, Don was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to live in Pocatello, Idaho. There he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman.

Later, Don left the railroad to start his plumbing apprenticeship. He received his Journeyman Plumbing License and went to work for several local businesses prior to opening his own business, Macbeth Plumbing, in 1958. Don took pride in attention to detail and became a Master Plumber. Through the years, Don built several homes for his own family and others in the community. Don worked on private homes and commercial businesses throughout his career. In 1972, after retirement from his own business, he worked at Idaho Nuclear Engineering Laboratory (INEL) until permanent retirement.

Don's hobbies consisted of working all day, then fishing until dark. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Washington and Canada with his friends. The family looked forward to camping and fishing trips in the Tetons and Mackay. His family was very important to him and he was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Don worked tirelessly in his yard and garden, striving for an immaculate yard. He especially enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with others, placing produce in a basket in his front yard for anyone to enjoy.

Don is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in various callings in the Church; including a member of a Bishopric and an Idaho Falls Temple worker. Don was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the American Legion. He was a dedicated rifleman in the Pocatello Veteran's Honor Guard for many years, until about 4 years ago.

Don is survived by his wife of 72 years, his children: Winfield (Ginny) Macbeth, Pocatello, Idaho; Stephen (Laura) Macbeth, McKeesport, Pennsylvania; Kathleen (Jeffrey) Hall, Blackfoot, Idaho; 9 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Opal Mae Macbeth; two sisters Maurine Malan and Oretel Hand; and two brothers Arthur Rae Macbeth, killed in World War II over Japan, and Harold Eugene Macbeth; and four grandchildren: Matthew Paul, Jennifer Kristie, and Jonathan Marc Macbeth; and Michael Wess Macbeth.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the following organizations and agencies for their support, kindness, and compassion: Ridgewind Assisted Living, Idaho State Veteran's Home (Pocatello), Access Hospice, Pocatello Veteran's Honor Guard, and both the Ridgewind and Idaho State Veteran's Home Branches of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Funeral services and arrangements are under the direction of Wilks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday September 20, 2013 at 12 o'clock noon at the LDS Victory Ward Building, 4600 Victory Road, Chubbuck, Idaho. There will be a public viewing on Thursday September 19, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd., Chubbuck, Idaho; and one hour prior to the services at the church. The interment will follow the services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites provided by Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
