Donald was born and raised in Pasadena, California. As a teenager, he spent his summers with relatives in Oklahoma and Colorado, working on ranches and in peach orchards.
On August 11, 1945, Donald enlisted in the Navy to serve his country in World War II on a destroyer, the John W. Weeks (DD701) as a Fireman second class. After his honorable discharge, Donald returned to Pasadena where he met his wife of 72 years, Donna Schallhorn.
Later they moved to San Jose, California where he became a sixty-five year member of the Operating Engineers Local #3 as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Welder, and Fabricator.
In 1966, Donald signed on with RMK-BRJ to go to Viet Nam as a civilian to train people in heavy equipment repair and welding. After being injured, he returned to his family and career in San Jose.
When he retired, Donald and Donna lived in Hollister, California for several years, where he was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #1436. He was also very active in the Ducks Unlimited Chapter there. Then, Donald and Donna moved to Pocatello, Idaho for the remainder of their lives.
Donald and Donna raised four children: Robert (Lisa) Foster of Driggs, Idaho; David (Karen) Foster of Coos Bay, Oregon; Marjorie (Mark) McCray of Half Moon Bay, California; and Lester (Alberta) Foster of Pocatello, Idaho.
Following his wife’s passing on December 19, 2021, Donald passed away at his home in Pocatello on December 25, 2021.
