Dolores Merrell

d. January 10, 2017

MARY 'DOLORES' MERRELL Dolores Merrell, 91, passed away at a local care facility January 10, 2017. She was born February 16, 1925 to Orson P. Merrell and Fanny Gwenlion Stinger Merrell in the home of her Aunt Alice. She was the youngest of 6 children; 1 brother, Howard and 4 sisters, Florence, Alice, Edna & Mabel. Dolores served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission that was headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Dolores said she didn't remember a time that she didn't have a testimony of the Gospel. During her mission, her testimony grew even stronger. She was employed by Farmers Insurance Company and worked there most of her adult life until she retired. After Dolores and her sister Mabel both retired, they had a home built next door to their brother, Howard on Bryan Street in Pocatello. Dolores loved animals, especially cats, and through the years a lot of cats found their way to her home and she would adopt and take care of them. When she first became ill, she was more concerned about her kitty 'kids' than she was about herself. Dolores was an accomplished pianist and served as organist in the 26th Ward for many years. She also enjoyed painting; her mother loved painting as well as two of her sisters. She hadn't painted for a few years but took it up again after she retired. Several of her paintings are hanging in her home along with other paintings by family members. They hosted a Christmas Eve party every year in their home and eventually added another large room to accommodate their growing family. They always made a piata to be broken and they had some very unique piatas through the years. All of the nieces, nephews and their families have fond memories of Dolores and Mabel and the good times spent in their home. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; brother, and all 4 of her sisters; 2 nephews, Ronald Luker & Brent Infanger. She is survived by 17 nieces and nephews; Harold [Carolyn] Luker, Eileen [Jim] Groome, Gordon Luker, Dianne [Sheldon] Olson, Terry Donat, James [Dianna] Donat, Alan [Carol] Merrell, Bonnie [Tim] Higginson, Wayne [Tammy] Infanger, Becky [Nolan] Clement, Anita [Keith] Perkins, Kelly [Doris] Infanger, Gary Infanger, Ivan Walker, Milo Walker, Ruby Hood, & Janice Luker [wife of Ronald Luker]. She is also survived by many grandnieces and nephews. We would like to thank the employees of Copper Summit Assisted Living and Heritage Home Health & Hospice for the loving care they gave Dolores for the last 14 months. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11 am at the LDS 26 th Ward Stake Building, 3444 Hawthorne Rd. Pocatello, ID 83201(Hawthorne & Eldredge) with a viewing for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
