DeVere "Jerry" Lowry, 75, passed away, suddenly in an accident with his dump truck, Tuesday evening, August 19, 2014 in Chubbuck, doing what he enjoyed; working. Jerry was born in Cutbank, Montana on February 3, 1939 to Cleon and Jean (Bone) Lowry. He was a "Ranch Hand" from the age of 7 and loved the ranch life. He graduated from Great Falls High School. He started working in high school for Garrett Freightlines on the dock and later in pick-up and delivery. He transferred to Pocatello with Garretts in 1964 as a long line driver. He bought some land and continued to raise hay and animals. He especially loved horses. He married Marsha Berg (a Montana girl) in Pocatello at Faith Lutheran Church on June 21, 1969. Dean DeVere, beloved son, was born to them on June 3, 1970. He was the first-born cowboy. Shawn Terry who Jerry named after a famous rodeo rider- was born October 17, 1972. Dean turned out to be the fearless horse rider and Shawn was more timid, but just as beloved by Jerry. They had many memories of "haying" with dad. Marsha and Jerry divorced in 1983. Jerry transferred a few years later to Denver, as Garrett operations changed. In 1991, he came back to Pocatello and worked various jobs. He was a member of the Marine Corp as a young man and was a member of the Idaho Army National Guard since 1974, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union. After retiring from the working world, he bought a used dump truck, fixed it up, and started his own business or hobby, as some people thought. Working was his life and his work ethic was matched only by his enthusiasm for any and all jobs. If he wasnt driving the truck, he was under or on top of it working on it. Marsha and Jerry remarried in 2005, to the surprised of everyone, including themselves. It was not meant to be again and they divorced in 2013. They remained friends though and the caring and love was still there. Jerry survived many health issues due to his determination. He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous relatives. He is survived by his son, Dean, and Deans daughter, Raegan Stone and Danyelle and Cody Reece, Deans step-children, who he considered his own. He is also survived by son, Shawn and Shawns goddaughter, Glory. Also surviving are his sister, Pearl of Great Falls, Montana, and his brother, Earl of Missoula, Montana, and his ex-wife, Marsha. Jerry has been cremated, per his wishes. Memorial services for Jerry will be Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 3 PM at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard located at 215 N. 18 th Pocatello, ID 83201. Family will meet with friends from 2:30 PM until service time, and again after the service, during a luncheon to be held at the church. All are encouraged to share their own "Jerry stories" in the service or at the luncheon. Jerry seemed to have an inner code of belief in giving of himself to help people, with his time and especially with his money. So many people, some he barely knew, were receivers of his generosity. So to honor this part of who Jerry was, please pay it forward. Condolences can be made to the family online at www.colonial-funeralhome.com
