Denny Van Lawrence, 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 17, 2012 at a local care facility. Denny was born on June 19, 1934 in Mt. Airy, North Carolina to Sanders and Charity Hiatt Lawrence.

Denny spend five years in the United States Navy. After his service he pursued a career in law enforcement as Police Chief of Campus Police with the College of Marin in Kenfield, California. He also worked as a deputy with the Elko County Sheriff's Office. In 1982 he was shot in the head while on duty. The injury left him handicapped until his death.

He married Irene in 1956, and they later divorced in 1980. Golf was his number one interest. Later in life he enjoyed making friends and riding around town with Gracie in his scooter. He had a great sense of humor.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Creekside Hospice; especially to Mishell, Amber and Jackie of Ridge Rind for all their attention and care to Denny.

Denny is survived by; sons, Richard (Lori) Lawrence, Idaho Falls, Dennis (Lisa) Lawrence, Parker, CO, Darrell Lawrence, Fort Hall; daughter, Anita (Rick) Casamento, Virginia; grandsons, Steven, Raymond, D.J., Jake, Malin; granddaughters, Ariel, Jennifer, Marissa, Maria, Mellissa, Katrina; three sisters, Dot, Gladys, and Margaret; one brother, Herbert; an especially close nephew, Dub (Nancy) Lawrence; five great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by; son, Charles Lawrence; Faithful Dog Companion, Gracie; Father and Mother; many siblings and extended family members.
