Dennis Anderson

Dennis Austin Anderson, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Dennis was born on October 16, 1936 in Pocatello, Idaho to Austin Hardy Anderson and Beth Nyman Anderson.

Dennis grew up in the Pocatello area attending local schools, and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1954. Dennis attended Idaho State University for one semester and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he became a Corpsman. During his service, Dennis returned to Pocatello in 1956 where he reconnected with his lifetime friend Valine Malan and they began dating and married later that same year. After getting married, they lived in Oceanside, California until Dennis was deployed to Okinawa, Japan where he spent a year.

Dennis served 4 years in the Navy and then with his wife Valine moved to Moab, Utah to work construction with his father Austin. They lived in Moab for five years and then returned to Pocatello in 1963. Dennis began selling insurance for New York Life in 1964 and then switched to State Farm Insurance where he worked for 40 years and retired in 2007 at the age of 70. After retirement, Dennis and Valine served in the Family History Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

During his life, Dennis served in many different callings for the LDS Church including Bishop, High Councilman, Executive Secretary, and Sunday School Teacher. Dennis loved serving in the church and especially enjoyed teaching where he influenced many lives.
Dennis and Valine had 5 children – Garth, Todd, Rick, Brent, and Dennalee.

Dennis loved spending time with his family and throughout his life participated in many activities including hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, camping, gardening, horseback riding, and building,
Dennis is survived by his wife Valine Anderson of Chubbuck, sons Todd (Trudy) Anderson of Chubbuck, Rick Anderson of Chubbuck, Brent (Lesa) Anderson of West Jordan, Utah, daughter Dennalee (Danny) Rupp of Boise, 20 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Austin and Beth Anderson, parents in law Lewis and Elva Malan, son Garth Anderson, grandson Carson Anderson, and granddaughter Kendra Odekirk.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 17th at the North Pocatello LDS Stake Center located on Whitaker Road in Chubbuck. Family will receive friends at a viewing Friday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Wilks Funeral Home located at 211 West Chubbuck Rd in Chubbuck. They will also receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to funeral services on Saturday morning at the Stake Center.
