Delthea Beverly Miller Smith passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from natural causes. She was born to Timothy Miller and Josephine Ponzo Miller on March 23, 1936. She grew up and lived all her life in Fort Hall, Idaho. She attended schools locally, Tyhee Elementary, Hawthorne, and Highland and also attended Chemewa Indian Boarding school. She worked various odd jobs in harvesting season and when she wasn't working; she was home taking care of her family. Delthea married Duke Holbrook, together they had two sons, and they later divorced. She married Clifford Smith and together they had eleven children. She loved to bead, cook, gardening, traveling to various hand game tourneys, powwows, sun dances, visiting with her relatives from all over, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Utah, she also liked going to yard sales, shopping at thrift stores, of course her favorite past time, going to the casino. She always made sure she took care of her relatives when they would come to visit her. Most left with at least a big fresh bag (da'ot) dry deer meat. She was well known for her generosity and always helping out anytime her family and relatives needed her, from sharing her wisdom, cooking, or just wanted to sit talk with her. She was a kind, generous, loving, caring, spit fiery woman with a heart of gold. No task to big enough for her. She would always find a way get things done and taken care of. She was a member and firm believer in the Native American Church ways and prayers. Delthea is survived by a daughter, Debra Pababwena; sons, Franklin Smith, Gayland Smith all of Fort Hall, Idaho, Curtis Smith, Boise Idaho; cousins, Kilburn Buckskin, Lenora Hall, Wilma Amboh, Denise Peshalakai, all of Fort Hall, Idaho; nieces, Zelberta Dann Fort Hall, Idaho, Lorene J. Bucksin Fort Hall, Idaho, Francine Shoyo Fort Washakie, Wyoming, Arnella Oldman, Fort Washakie, Wyoming, Drusilla Gould, Delphina Gould both of Fort Hall, Idaho; nephews, Clifford "Duckie" Buckskin (Angie) Gibson, Idaho, Douglas Buckskin Sr. Fort Hall, Aaron Buckskin, Wayland Buckskin, Fort Hall, Idaho, Verlon Gould (cherise) Fort Hall, Idaho and Verlon Timbana, Fort Washakie, Wyoming; and 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She is preceded by her parents, Timothy and Josephine Miller; husband, Clifford Smith Sr.; brothers, Forester Miller, Lebron "Benny" Miller; sisters, Aurelia M. Moemberg, Delberta M.Dann; sons, Clifford Smith Jr., Gary Smith, Thomas Holbrook, Tony Holbrook; daughters, Laurie A. Smith, Linda K Smith, Cindy G. Smith, Valorie Smith; grandparents, Frank Ponzo, Dora Ponzo, Teecheap Miller, Sampson Miller; uncles, Green Leaf Miller, Vern Ponzo, John Ponzo; aunts, Irene P. Gould, Loris P. Peshalakai; nieces, Imogene "Gina" Miller, JoElla Tindore, Audery Gould Bearing; granddaughter, Malana Moemberg; grandson, Orlando Smith; and nephew, Earl Dann. Traditional services and viewing will be at the Rodney and Iona Blackhawk residence on Frasure Road, Fort hall, Idaho, Monday, December 30, 2019 until time of burial at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Cedars Cemetery.
