DeLoy Wheeler

September 30, 1953 — December 1, 2024

Pocatello

DeLoy Wheeler, 71, a longtime resident of Chubbuck, passed away peacefully in Clinton, Utah on December 1, 2024. DeLoy was born in Rigby, Idaho to Ursul and Verenna Wheeler. They moved to Pocatello several years later, where he graduated from Pocatello High School. After high school, he worked as a mechanic for Bucyrus-Erie and then worked as a diesel, HVAC and other maintenance mechanic for the Idaho National Laboratory until he retired in 2009.

Those who knew him remember his fun-loving attitude, boisterous laugh, and of course his cowboy hat. His laugh earned him the nickname Hooter at work.

Hobbies in his younger days included camping and fishing nearly every weekend in the summer and hunting in the spring and fall. Additional hobbies included horseshoes and pool. His grandsons were a great source of pride, and he spent a lot of time attending their baseball, soccer and football games while they were in school. If you asked him, he'd tell you with a twinkle in his eyes and a broad smile that his favorite hobbies were "chasing women and drinking beer."

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ursul and Verenna, brothers Leland, Kent and Tim, and sisters Kathy and Angie. He is survived by two sisters, Gloria (Sid) Alvord and Pam (Greg) Davis, daughter Desiree (Tom) Reagan and grandsons Jeremy and Drew Reagan.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
