Delos Hale

d. January 2, 2017

Delos Wilder Hale, 94, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 in Logan, Utah. He was born September 2, 1922 to Arden Hale and Rachael Dye in Groveland, Idaho. Delos earned his Eagle Scout as a boy, served as an Assistant Scoutmaster while still a teenager, then became a Scoutmaster for the first time in his twenties. Over the next fifty years he served in scouting, and received the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished, lifelong service. Delos loved taking the boys camping, hiking, and cave exploring, and was delighted to see them grow and find success. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Navigator in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Missoula, Montana and Amarillo, Texas. Delos loved to sing. He sang in and led the church choir, acted and sang in community plays, accompanied himself on the guitar, was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and was known to burst into song unexpectedly. Delos graduated from Pocatello High School in 1940, then after completing agriculture classes at Idaho State University, became a successful farmer and dairyman. He also sold insurance and was a Real Estate Agent and Broker of his own agency. He kept a large garden and greenhouse, selling produce at the Pocatello Farmers Market and giving fruit and raspberries, a family favorite, to relatives and friends. Delos married Betty June Clark on June 4, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. During their entire 59 years of marriage they lived on their small farm on Hiline Road in Tyhee, moving first into a basement house and then to a house the young couple built themselves on the same property. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Delos and Betty served missions in Oklahoma, India, Australia, Korea, Utah, and Idaho. Delos was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son Kevin, as well as his four children, Gary, Jan, Danny, and Arden, who died in infancy. He is survived by sons, Brent (Vee), Eric (Renae), David (Cindy), and Gordon (Karen); grandchildren, Annalyn, Aaron, Keith, Derek, Scott, Allison, Jason, Stephanie, David, Benjamin, Nicholas, Rachel, Brady, Roxanne, Melanie, Michael, Kendall, Kirsten, Charlotte, Peter, Jonathan; and 19 great-grandchildren. We will miss his love, stories, humor and delightful spontaneity. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10 am at the LDS Tyhee Stake Building, 12146 Tyhee Rd. Pocatello, ID 83202, with a viewing for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204. There will also be a memorial open house on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the LDS Logan Stake Center, 920 Three Point Ave. in Logan, UT.
