Dell Lowe

January 2, 1926 — June 17, 2015

Dell Lowe, 89 peacefully passed away June 17, 2015 at his home.

Dell was born January 2, 1946 to James LeRoy and Anna Laura (Barkdull) Allen Lowe in Moreland, Idaho. He grew up in Moreland, Wapello, Mackay and Pocatello. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1944.

Dell proudly served his country as he enlisted with the U.S. Army / Air Force and fought during World War II. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

Dell married the love of his life, Bernice Irene Wellard in 1949 in Pocatello. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1961. Together they raised four children.
Dell completed Vo-Tech and started at Blair Fry Motors as a future great mechanic. Later he hired on at Garrett Freight Lines and retired 35 years later in Oakland, California at the age of 62.

While employed at Garrett's the family owned and operated a motel in Chubbuck, owned and operated Lowe's Tyhee Market and operated the Fort Hall Cafe and farmed a parcel of land where they lived on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. Dell remained very busy following his retirement from Garrett Freight Lines.

Dell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in the various callings extended to him. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, snow skiing, hunting, and in his later years really enjoyed travelling. He was the neighborhood gopher exterminator. For years he helped the farmers in the surrounding Tyhee area, as a neighbor; and as a friend, he loved to help whenever he could. He was a frequent participant with Red Cross blood drives and tallied up blood donations that exceeded 50 gallons throughout his life.

His family expresses their deepest gratitude to LaFawn Hensley for the time and devotion spent in caring for Dad at Cottonwood Cove.

Dell will be always remembered and dearly missed by his daughters, LaFawn Lowe Hensley (Jim), Pocatello; LynnAdele Lowe Nielsen (Craig), Billings, MT; a son, Kort Jon Lowe (Gloria), Boise; a brother, "R" Dee Lowe (Helena), Twin Falls; sisters, Nora Lee Lowe Koven (Frank), Utah; Anna May Lowe Winger (Ferrell), California; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
