Debra "Debbie" Marie (Holbrook) Girard, 67, of McCammon, ID passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Debbie was the daughter of John M. Holbrook and Geraldine Pester. She was born February 8, 1950 in Pocatello, ID. She was the oldest of three siblings. During her early childhood, she lived in numerous places before moving from Hood River, Oregon to Inkom, Idaho; after her mother passed away when she was nine years old. Debbie and her two younger brothers spent their childhood exploring the forest and enjoying the outdoors in Oregon and later seeking adventure in Inkom. She attended Inkom Elementary where she met a boy that would eventually become the love of her life. Debbie was a very smart student, who always got good grades. She graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1968, where she was a cheerleader. She loved making friends and was very well liked by everyone that met her. Debbie married her high school sweetheart, Raymond "Ray" Girard on January 26, 1968. Ray worked at Simplots for nearly 40 years. They welcomed two children, Carye and Cory. The four of them settled in McCammon, ID where Debbie and Ray built their home in 1974. Debbie worked as a bank teller at Bank of Idaho for 10 years in Pocatello, ID. She spoke fondly of her job and how she much she enjoyed working with money. She retired early, at the age of 28, when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. From then, she took great pride in being a homemaker and devoting her time to raising her children. She was an amazing mother and devoted wife. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, camping, fishing, four-wheeling, boating, playing horseshoes, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved talking about her family and how proud of them she was. She loved country music and especially liked Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith and Garth Brooks. Debbie loved making people happy. She would often pull many pranks to get a good laugh. Her laugh is something that will be greatly missed by those closest to her. She was incredibly resilient and fought her MS with unspeakable strength. She always stood up for what she believed in and never missed a moment to tell her family what they meant to her. She could often be seen wearing her favorite color, hot pink, and accessorizing her style with pink or blue hair and sparkly eye shadow, a physical sign of the spunky spirit that made her desirable, a spirit that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Debbie is survived by her spouse, Ray Girard, McCammon, ID; her two children, Carye Girard of Boise, ID, Cory (Holly) Girard of McCammon, ID; her brothers, John (Gina) Whitworth and Dale (Brenda) Whitworth, both of Pocatello, ID. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Amanda (Dusty), Jason, Shaniya, and Ashley; and three great-grandchildren, Sophye, Deegan and Brakken. She is preceded in death by her baby sister, Jacquelin Holbrook; and her parents, Geraldine Pester and John M. Holbrook. A private family service will be held Thursday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, condolences may be sent to Ireland Bank.
