David Ray Byington

David Ray Byington, 63, died Monday evening, peacefully in his home, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer. Having been surrounded by family and friends in the preceding weeks brought him great joy and peace. He was born April 13, 1951 in Blackfoot, ID to Stan and Julia (Marple) Byington. David grew up in Pocatello, ID. He graduated from Highland High School in 1969, and shortly after, enlisted in the Air Force. He was sent to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, for Basic Training. It was after this he called his childhood sweetheart, Mary Louise Egan, and proposed. They were married a month later on, September 4, 1971, in the Egan family home, and later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 18, 1973. Their many adventures began in Illinois; then Chandler, Arizona; then on to Haun Air Force Base, Germany, where they lived for the next 2 years. It was here they grew up together, made many life-long friends, had their first born, and traveled Europe on a shoestring budget. They returned to their hometown, Pocatello, where David started and ran a Mobile Home Repair Business for the next 5 years. He later went to work at the JR Simplot plant, where he stayed for the next 33 years, until he retired in 2013 due to health issues. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, with his family, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, skiing, hiking, camping, and boating. He never found an outdoor hobby he didnt like. David was preceded in death by his father, Stan, his mother, Julia, and his Father-in-Law, Douglas Blaine Egan. David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary; his sisters, Chris (Brent) Fowler , Teressa Carrol, Ellice (Saeid) Rezaii, and Pam (Kerry) Draper; his children Joe Byington, Kendra (David) Rone, Amanda (Jim) Fowler, Laura (Jon) Miller, Melissa (Terrence) Campbell, and Alycia (Mac) Foulger; and 18 grandchildren. A viewing will be Friday, October 3, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 208-233-1500 and again on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 1:30-2:30 PM at the LDS church located at 954 E. Walnut St. (corner of Jefferson & Walnut), Poc. Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:30 PM at the Walnut St. church. Burial will follow at the Norton Cemetery in McCammon.
