David Matson

David E. Matson, 75, passed away at his home on March 25, 2015 in St. George, Utah.
David was born in Los Angeles, California on September 12, 1939 to Muriel Josephson of Rockland, Idaho and John Matson of American Falls, Idaho. David attended primary and secondary schools in Huntington Park, California and graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1957.

David attended college for one year at Brigham Young University, Hawaii campus, and three years at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. David was on the 1962 Conference Championship BYU baseball team and was named to the All-Conference team that year as a Catcher. While at BYU, David participated in AAU boxing tournaments throughout the Rocky Mountain Area and was the intramural Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion for the two years he participated in the tournament. David graduated from BYU in 1962 with a B.S. Degree in Political Science and a minor in English Literature.

David returned to the Southern California area and resided in the Long Beach, Palm Springs and Lake Arrowhead areas most of his professional career. He worked on the Saturn and Apollo Projects at the North American Aviation facility in Downey, California for several years before enlisting in the Marine Corp in 1963. David was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp in 1969.

David was hired by Shell Oil and was employed as a Business Consultant and Dealer Recruiter for a 5 year period. David left Shell Oil and accepted a position as a College Recruiter for Columbia College, a woman's college, in Columbia, Missouri recruiting on high school campuses in Arizona, California and Hawaii. After several years as a College Recruiter, David returned to the oil business accepting a position with Exxon/Mobil as a Business Consultant. David was employed by Exxon/Mobil for a 25 year period and worked in the Southern California and Arizona area before retiring in 1997. David moved to St. George, Utah in 2002.

David is survived by a brother Ron, of Chino, California and a brother Garry, of Chubbuck, Idaho. David has cousins, nephews and nieces in the Pocatello, Idaho, Northern Utah and Southern California areas.

Graveside services for David will be held privately for his family at the Valley View Cemetery in Rockland, Idaho. His funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, Idaho.
