David Lee Sorrells

David Lee Sorrells, 69, passed away at his home with family, on February 3, 2017. He was born on July 18, 1947 in Prairie City, Illinois to Daniel Lee Sorrells and Pauline Williams Sorrells. After High School, Dave served in the United States Air Force for 4 years at Castle Air Force Base, Atwater, CA. He worked at Burlington Northern Railroad in Illinois. Dave married Rosemary Sorrells, they later divorced. They had two children, Stacey (Lee) Burrelson, Rathdrum, ID and Larry Eugene Sorrells, Pocatello, ID. Dave moved to Idaho over 41 years ago. He followed his brothers, Lee (Dan) and Kenny to be mountain men. In Illinois, he and his brothers could only hunt and fish on private lands. They moved to Idaho to enjoy the benefits of large tracts of public lands to hunt and fish. Dave was an avid bow hunter, black powder gun enthusiast and fisherman. In Idaho, he worked at Commons Poultry and before he retired in 2010, worked for Thompson and Watkins Distributors. Dave met and married his soulmate Teresa Wilkes Sorrells on September 21, 1985. Teresa called him Chicken Dave as he delivered chickens to the store she was working at the time. Dave and Teresa have had a wonderful journey these past 33 years full of fun and laughter and many hunting-fishing trips. Some of Dave's favorite treasures are hanging in their Living room; Mountain Lion, Elk, Deer, Black Bear and two Moose heads. Dave always pointed out and bragged that Teresa's Moose was larger. Dave cooked dinner almost every night for his wife and son and had it ready when she would return from work at Smiths Food & Drug and The Ross Park Drive Inn; that she owns with her brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Sherri Wilkes. Dave would hike and ride his bike with his favorite dog, Buck. He was an active grandpa. Dave was gifted at making bows and arrows and black powder bullets for his gun collection. Bow hunting and archery were two of his favorite hobbies. He wrote a poem, "The Archer's Soul" in 1998. Archer's Soul The mountains green - the valleys deep. The archer's soul, it never sleeps The awesome power of stick and string, the cedar shaft, a mystical thing. To walk the forest with bow in hand to view the sights of God's great land. I often wonder where I would be if it weren't for the archer's soul in me. -Dave Sorrells- 1998 Dave was touched that his good friend Doug Fleming read that poem to him one last time. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Teresa; children, Stacy and Larry; stepdaughter, Jennifer; 7 grandchildren, Sasha, Holly, Timothy, John, Melissa, Briley and Reghan; 4 great-grandchildren, Noah, Aiden, Abby and JT; siblings, Juanita (Ken) Becker, Las Vegas, Lee (Tina) Sorrells, Arkansas, Kenny (Laurie) Sorrells, Kuna, and Paula (William) Falkner, Bellingham. The family would like to express gratitude and appreciation to Huntsman Cancer Center where they received connected patient care and Heritage Hospice. Teresa and Dave would like to give special thanks to Jennifer and family and Larry for being there every day. Also, Rayna Valentine Wilkes, Dave's family & friends, Teresa's siblings & outlaws, Smiths Food & Drug, and all the well wishes from family and friends. The family will receive family and friends at an Open House at their home on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
