Darrell Shreve

September 27, 1942 — April 30, 2009

Darrell R. Shreve, 66, passed away peacefully at his home in Chubbuck, Idaho, on April 30, 2009, the same day his newest grandson was born.

Born in Kellogg, Idaho, on September 27, 1942, Darrell was the second oldest of 5 children of Francis and Lula (Reinoehl) Shreve.

Darrell's early years were spent enjoying the outdoors of northern Idaho, fishing, playing sports, helping his dad fix on cars, playing music, and playing card games. Darrell was an accomplished tenor saxophonist in his youth playing with the Kellogg High School band and in traveling rock bands around the region. Everyone that heard him play the sax during those days said that he could really rock.

Darrell graduated from Kellogg High School in 1960. He worked in the smelters and mines of the Silver Valley and later for the First Security Bank of Idaho in Kellogg and Pierce, ID. Wanting to find more opportunities, he traveled west to Seattle where he worked and eventually met his future wife, Jorene Dibbern. They were married on September 5, 1970, in Richland, WA. at Richland Lutheran Church.

After living in the Seattle area for a few years, Darrell moved his family to Richland, WA in 1970, where he went to work at the Hanford Nuclear Site for various contractors including Bechtel, Kaiser Engineers, and Fluor Hanford. While his youthful interest in playing music faded, he continued his love of fishing, card games, and classic cars, taking his family on numerous memorable fishing and camping trips. He was always able to spot and identify the make and model of any car from his generation. We'll always remember the many family card games going late into the night filled with conversation, laughter, and reminiscing of times past.

After retiring in 2005 from Fluor Hanford, Darrell and Jorene left Richland and moved to Pocatello, ID, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. There he was able to enjoy family gatherings and attend his grandchildren's many sports, school, and musical events. Darrell and Jorene also enjoyed RV'ing around the West with their fifth wheel trailer traveling to New Mexico, Montana, Utah, Oregon, Washington, and S.E. and Central Idaho. He loved to play golf and developed a passion for Sudoku. Darrell was very proud of his sons and grandchildren. He deeply loved his family and counted the time he spent with them as very special.

Possessing a diligent work ethic, Darrell was a real ‘Do-It-Yourselfer'. He worked hard to provide a good life for his family and instilled in his sons the love of family, the outdoors, and sports. He taught them compassion, selflessness, and the hard skills of home repair, remodeling, and mechanics. He will be missed for his sense of humor, clever puns, and play on words, which brought smiles, joy, and laughter to those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Jorene: sons Matthew (Angie) and Jeremy of Chubbuck, ID; brother Duane (Liz) Shreve of Boise, ID; sisters Fran (Paul) Uken of Columbia Falls, MT, Joni (Rod) Lindsey and Penny (Dick) Haakenson of Post Falls, ID; numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and by his three dogs Max, Annie, and Daisy.

According to his wishes, Darrell will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd, Chubbuck, ID on Saturday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilks Funeral Home, Chubbuck, ID.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wilksfuneralhome.com. The family requests contributions be made in Darrell's name to Portneuf Health Care Foundation, 651 Memorial Drive " Pocatello, ID 83201.
