Darold Chambers

Darold Holroyd Chambers, 83, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, January 21, 2012 at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Pocatello, Idaho of natural causes He was born August 14, 1928 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Edward Holroyd and Laura Stanford (Goddard) Chambers. He attended Ogden city schools graduating from Ogden High School in 1946. He served for 2 years in the military as a demolition expert during the occupation of Japan returning home in 1948. Following his military service he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in South Africa. After his mission Darold attended Weber Junior College completing his associate's degree. He was employed by Weber Junior College as the assistant registrar. While working at Weber he completed his undergraduate degree in history at Utah State University. On August 12, 1952 he married Kathleen Burton in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Darold and Kathleen were blessed with four children, David, Doug, Laurie and Robert. In 1961 Darold and Kathleen and their family moved to Pocatello where Darold assumed a position at Idaho State College as Assistant Registrar. While working as Director of Registration, Admissions and Records he also served as the faculty athletic representative to the Big Sky Conference, a responsibility he thoroughly enjoyed. He retired from Idaho State University in 1990. During his 29 years of service at ISU he cultivated many fond relationships and memories. In 1994 Darold and Kathleen served an 18 month mission in the England/Leads Mission. He loved his missionary experience in England and still has many friends there. In March 2000 Kathleen passed away. Darold's family grew when he married Virginia Marley Thomas in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in October 2000. Virginia's two children Angie and Cheryl were added to the family at, this time. Darold enjoyed family camp-outs, fly-fishing, golfing and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling. He especially enjoyed the time he spent in Island Park. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could always make his family laugh at his antics. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many leadership positions including Bishop and as a member of the Stake Presidency. He especially loved his service as a Gospel Doctrine Instructor. Darold is survived by his wife Virginia, his children David D. (Jeanmarie), Delmont, Pennsylvania, Douglas B. (Nancy), Pocatello, Laurie (Bruce) Randall , Vancouver, WA, Robert E. (Robin), Rexburg, ID, Angie (Kevin) Hill, Inkom, ID, Cheryl Nalley, Pocatello, one sister Ardell C. (Bob) Thomas, Pocatello, 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathleen, his brother, Edward G. (Bud) Chambers and his sister Helen Chambers Whitaker. The family would like to thank the staff at the Idaho State Veterans Home for the loving and attentive care they provided to Darold. Their care and attention extended to family members during visits. Their service is greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held Friday January 27 th 11:00 am at the North Pocatello Stake Center, 4890 Whitaker Rd., Chubbuck, ID with Bishop Tom Mortimer of the LDS Mountain Park Ward conducting. The family will receive friends Thursday January 26 th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Avenue, Pocatello, and again Friday from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at the Stake Center. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
