POCATELLO-Daniel Lynn Smith, 80, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the Idaho State Veterans Home. He was born April 18, 1928 in Bridgeland, Utah, to Jason Lynn and Ruby Alice (Edwards) Smith. He was raised Midway, Utah. Daniel met Lillian Rae Olund, his future wife in Vale, Oregon. They were married May 27, 1950. They were blessed with seven children. He worked at the Kennecott Copper Mine in Utah for over 30 years. He also worked at a cattle ranch as a fence rider. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved animals, especially horses and pigeons. He also enjoyed western movies, country music, boxing, and socializing with family and friends. He was a generous, kind, and loving person. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Rae Smith, Pocatello, children, Dewey Lynn (Annette) Smith, Herriman, UT, Daniel Ray Smith, Salt Lake City, UT, Peggy (Dean) Petersen, South Jordan, UT, Joan (David) Kley, Pocatello, and John Rodney (Shauna) Smith, Idaho Falls; he is also survived by his siblings, Kay (Glenda) Smith, Vale, OR, Gay (Jerry) Motley, Midway, UT, Phyllis McCullough, Horseshoe Bend, AR, Elaine Jensen, Delta, UT and Loyia (George) Toly, CA; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Timothy Smith and a daughter, Tonia Sue Smith, his parents, Jason Lynn Smith and Ruby Alice Edwards Smith, and brothers, Theron John and Faun Marin Smith. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave, Pocatello. The family will meet with friends and relatives from noon to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home prior to going to Norton Cemetery in McCammon for interment.
