Dan Robertson, 66, passed away October 4, 2018 after a long struggle with cancer. Dan was born December 11, 1951 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to Boyd and Margaret Robertson. His early life was spent in Missouri and later in Idaho. Dan graduated from Rigby High School in 1970. He then joined the Army and served in Vietnam from 1971-1972. After separating from the Army Dan briefly returned to Missouri. The call of the West went out to Dan, though; and brought him back to Rigby, Idaho where he worked construction.
Dan met the love of his life, Kim, in 1978 and they were married in Elko, Nevada in 1982. Dan and Kim made their home in Pocatello and raised two boys, Joshua Cyr and Todd Robertson. Life was busy, fun, and filled with music and laughter, and, of course, camping.
Although Dan was ill he didn't let it slow him down most of the time. His hard work and stubbornness allowed him to stay healthy in order to visit his grandchildren Samantha and Maxwell, children of Joshua and Jennifer, and Audrey born of Todd and Katie just 2 weeks before his passing.
Dan, an avid learner, attended Idaho State University from 1981 to 1983 obtaining a certificate in Civil Engineering Technology. He later returned to ISU in 1991 and obtained his Associate of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology. He frequently spent many hours researching, learning, and exploring all kinds of new and old topics. Dan was hired by the Idaho Transportation Department in 1983 where he worked in several disciplines before retiring in 2012.
Dan had a lifelong affair with music. He was a talented musician and played drums with several area bands. He loved fishing and camping, especially at Birch Creek. Kim and Dan were able to spend many happy hours touring around with their RV and on their Harley Davidson trike before poor health would no longer allow it.
Strong bonds were important to Dan. He belonged to the Vietnam Veterans of America, the American Legion and Freedom Riders. He had an especially powerful bond with his border collie Abigail. The best dog ever.
A special thanks to the Portneuf Cancer Center for their wonderful care. Dan was always in good spirits frequently bringing 3 dozen donuts to the staff and was soon dubbed Donut Dan. Thanks also to the VA Clinic in Pocatello.
Dan is survived by his wife, Kim Peterson Robertson of Pocatello, son Todd Robertson of Dover, New Hampshire and stepson Joshua Cyr of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Dan was preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers. He is survived by three siblings, Robbie, Warren, Tina and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rest in peace, Dan, you were well loved.
