He grew up and attended school in Downey and graduated with honors in 1944 from Downey High school. He enjoyed all forms of physical activity, including high school football, basketball, and baseball; cutting his own fence-rails and lumber; over 80 years of horseback riding; and, in recent years, water aerobics at Downata Hot Springs with several of his closest friends. Dale enlisted in the United States Navy towards the end of World War II, attended Naval training at Princeton University, and served in the South Pacific. After working in the family business for a few years, Dale was a salesman with Palmer Motors in Preston, Idaho until he was elected Downey Postmaster, a position he held and loved until retiring. Besides his career, he successfully pursued numerous interests and avocations, including his passion for horses and music. Dale enjoyed his associations in the Boy Scouts, Lions Club and VFW, and served in various positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved being of service by donating his time and resources to organized projects, as well as the needs of family, friends, neighbors and strangers. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marian Davis Denny, brother, E. Reese Davis, and son, J. Grant. He is survived by his wife, Jeannine; sister, Carol (Blair) Jones, and children, Jan (Lloyd) ONeil, Wendy (Robert) Hirai, and Dan; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
