Dan Ames

Oliver Daniel "Dan" Ames, age 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Dan was born on March 10, 1933 in Pocatello, Idaho to Ruby and Melvin Ames. His siblings are June Ellsworth, Cecil Ames, Corwin Ames, Larry Ames.

He graduated from Pocatello High School. He has lived in Pocatello, and Las Cruses, NM. Dan married Bonnie Bernice Smith on June 5th, 1952, in Pocatello, Idaho. Dan enlisted in the US Army in 1950-1953. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, trap shooting, and traveling.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, sister, June Ellsworth, two brothers, Cecil Ames and Corwin Ames (Rosemary), and his son Danny Ames.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Bonnie Ames of Pocatello ID; a brother, Larry Ames (LaRae) of Pocatello ID; his son, Darin Ames of Pocatello, ID; and daughter, Belinda Ellis of Azusa, CA; four granddaughters, Morgann Ellis, Meghann Ellis, and Madison Ellis of Azusa, CA, and Alyssa Meldrum (Brendon) of Pullman, WA; one grandson, Evan Ames of Pocatello ID; and extended family, and loved ones.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Ave. in Pocatello, Idaho. A viewing will be held starting at 11 am and will be followed by funeral services at 12 pm noon. His burial will immediately follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho.
