Damaughn Tubbs

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Joel DaMaughn Tubbs, 89, returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, April 14, 2017. He was born at home in Holbrook, Idaho on October 8, 1927 to Abigail Idumia Ward Tubbs and Joel Arvin Tubbs. He was the youngest of six children and the youngest grandchild of Moroni Ward. Dads first experience with school was in a one room school house with one teacher for eight grades. He graduated from Malad High School in 1945. He married the love of his life, Nelda LaRae Hess, on June 28, 1946. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on August 3, 1955. They enjoyed 62 wonderful years together and raised four children, Janis (Roger) Malm, Rosalie (Charles) Mainord, J.D. (Josette) Tubbs and Robbie (John) Spicer. DaMaughn and his wife loved to dance, square dance, camp, and ride motorcycles along many mountain trails with a wide circle of friends. They found great pleasure in watching children and grandchildren participate in athletic events, piano and dance recitals, and attending birthdays and family activities. Family was their life. During the first 13 years of their marriage, DaMaughn farmed 37 irrigated and 40 dry land acres, and milked cows. In 1959, they moved their family to Pocatello where he became a full time fireman. He continued as a volunteer fireman when he bought Maple Leaf Dairy which he operated for 21 years. He then became an Independent Contractor in maintenance. He retired at age 85. He wished he could have worked longer. He could fix most anything and was always willing to help others. He enjoyed working in his beautiful yard. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his lifetime, he held many positions including: serving as Bishop, Adult Aaronic Priesthood Leader, as Stake Athletic Director for 6 years, and as a counselor in the Sunday School. He and his wife served as fulltime missionaries in the South Carolina, Columbia Mission. Upon returning home he was called as Ward Mission Leader. They also served a three year mission in the St. Anthony Branch of Pocatello. He and his wife were workers in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was always a faithful Home Teacher. In all of his callings he cared deeply for those he served. He will be greatly missed by his four children; three sons-in-law; a daughter-in-law; 23 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda; parents; three sisters, Shirley, Iola, and Audrey; two brothers, Dan and Stuart; and a great-granddaughter, Teagan. A visitation will be Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Services will be Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11 am at the LDS Chubbuck 4 th Ward chapel, 450 James Ave. Chubbuck, ID, with a visitation for one hour prior.
