Dale Armond Sims

September 17, 1927 — May 27, 2016

Dale Armond Sims, 88, passed away May 27, 2016, at home in Pocatello, Idaho. Born September 17, 1927, in Miami, Arizona, to Albert John Sims and Ella LaVer Holladay Sims, he was the third youngest of seven brothers and one sister.

Dale excelled in track, pole vaulting, basketball and football. During World War II, he and his classmates worked the night shift at the Miami Copper Mine to fill the need for around-the-clock production.

In 1946 he began his life-time banking career at the Miami branch of the Valley National Bank. When he was transferred in 1950 to the Clifton branch as assistant manager, he met the newly-hired high school teacher, Joyce Abbott. They married in 1951 and were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona temple in 1963.

In 1955, Dale was hired by Western American Mortgage Company in Phoenix, a career that covered 37 years. During those years, he and Joyce raised two daughters in Scottsdale, Arizona. The family has fond memories of desert bike rides, hiking, Colorado vacations, trips to the family cabin, visiting historic sites, and traveling the Mormon Trail.

Dale has served in many callings in the LDS church. In Scottsdale and Pocatello, he served as ward and stake clerks. He will be remembered for being a faithful home teacher and for chauffeuring missionaries and others to their appointments.

After their retirement, Dale and Joyce moved to Pocatello 23 years ago where they have both daughters and their families close by. Dale loved being part of the lives of his 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. His love and devotion to his family and friends, his loyalty, integrity, and quiet manners will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife and his daughters and sons-in-law Karen and John C. McNabb and Wendy and Mike Gornichec; his grandsons John D. (Sheila), Carl (Ashley), David (Kathryn), Keith (Maurie), Mark (Carlee), Greg, Jacob McNabb, and Ryan (Megan), Kevin, Tyler Ray, and Jeffrey Gornichec; his granddaughters Carolyn (Adam) Sipherd, Amy (Austin) Corry, Ashley (Caz) Alley, and Anna McNabb, and his great-grandchildren.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Kelton, Oswald, Eugene, Marden, Joe, George, Keith, and his sister, Yeteve Pace, and son-in-law, Scott Ray.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016, 12:00 noon, with prior visitation 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., El Rancho Ward, 300 East Chapel Road, Pocatello, Idaho. Interment will be at the Inkom City Cemetery located on Rapid Creek Road west of Inkom about 3:00 p.m.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the dedicated care given by the staff at the Idaho Kidney Center, by Drs. Rahim and Haderlie, by the staff, aides, and volunteers of Access Home Care and Hospice, and by dear friends who have helped in so many ways.
