Cynthia Gleed

March 9, 1956 — January 10, 2023

Cynthia “Cindy” Gleed (Hall, Van Horn) made her journey back to the heavenly realm to be with her beloveds on January 10, 2023.

Cindy was born in Ogden, Utah on March 9, 1956, to Carol Dean Hall and Kay Winston Hall. She was born into a large family and had 4 brothers and 5 sisters. They moved around, living in various small towns in farm houses. They lived in Malad, Arimo, and Inkom, Idaho.

Cindy and her siblings enjoyed playing outdoor games growing up, such as kick the can, hide and seek, baseball, etc. She and her sisters listened to music and sang their little hearts out to the “oldies but goodies”, all the while doing each other’s hair.

In 1971 Cindy had her daughter Tressy. She was a young mom, but she and her mama decided together to not adopt Tressy to another family. It was a huge decision to make, but she stayed the course and was the best mom she knew how to be. She was there through every heartbreak and all the madness that life threw their way.

In 1972 Cindy fell in love with Gary Van Horn from American Falls, Idaho. They were married on February 14, 1973. Gary adopted Tressy, and in 1976 they had their son Justin Van Horn. In 1978 Cindy and Gary divorced, after which she and her two children moved from American Falls to Pocatello.

It was then that she enrolled at Idaho State University to receive her Associates Degree. She became the first woman to ever graduate in Diesel Mechanics. What a huge feat!!! She was on the front page of the newspaper and everything. Cindy was a trailblazer and made her path in a man's world. She had to work hard and prove that she was capable of getting the job done.

In 1981 she signed on with the Idaho Transportation Department and became part of the sign crew. She worked in this department for many years. It was hard labor, and she worked in all sorts of weather conditions. Cindy helped in installing small signs to huge overhead signs on the Idaho highways. She eventually advanced to becoming the Traffic/Design Engineer working in the office. She enjoyed this very much and felt proud of her achievements. Plus, she could have pretty nails and dress nicely. Cindy retired from Idaho Transportation Department in 1997.

Cindy has two grandchildren: Trevor and Shayla Van Horn. Grandma Cindy loved playing in the backyard with her grandbabies, the beautiful pink peonies, and eating cheese puffs. She had such a deep bond with them and taught them many things in life. She has always been their North star, and they could always count on her love to guide them through their hard times.

Cindy also has 2 great grandsons: Teagin and Treyson. Unfortunately, they didn't get to know one another much, but it doesn't mean she loved them any less.

In 2015 a new born baby came into our family. She was blessed with a lil Sophia Rose. Sophia and Granny loved drawing, doing ABC's, 123's, and playing games together. They spent lots of time together playing, laughing and driving Grandma Tina crazy.

Cindy, Justin, and Tina lived together for many years. Tina and Cindy became the bestest of friends, and they did everything together. They loved going to yard sales! Mom and Justin's relationship has always been a deep mother and son kind of love that could never be described by mere words.

Our family have many memories during the holidays and having yummy barbecues in the back yard. Mom loved her yard and all the flowers she planted throughout the years.

Cindy loved to be adventurous and was always ready to go on a road trip to someplace new. She loved going to Crystal Park in Montana, Lava Hot Springs, Yellowstone Park, and Redfish Lake. While at Crystal Park we would have to almost drag her off the mountain. She would say, "Come-on, let's dig for one more hour. Just one more hour." As the snow is falling on our heads, and our face/hands were numb. She loved digging for crystals, camping, and fishing.

Cindy loved being creative and anything to do with the arts. She loved to paint and was very good at it. She made beautiful jewelery and glass blown beads.

Her favorite holiday was Christmas. The tree was always beautiful and she always made each Christmas special. She enjoyed making candy with the family. Her favorite to make was caramels with walnuts, buttermilk pies and no-bake cookies. Then of course the traditional grandma's peanut brittle and fudge.

Cindy began having physical mobility issues in 2012. She bravely fought a long battle for 10 years with a physical condition that no doctors or tests could give explanation to.

She was very blessed to have Justin and Tina by her side during her time of need. They all stuck it out and fought the good fight together! She ran the race to the finish line, and she kept her eye on the prize ~ Her savior Jesus.

Our mom, grandma, sister, granny, auntie, and best friend will be deeply missed.. She touched many peoples life's with her kindness, patience, and the sweetness that she radiated out into this world. She didn't judge or condemn others. She was a great listener and offered advice only when asked. Her love was truly unconditional!!! She was and is just an amazing warm hearted loving person. Very rarely did she ever raise her voice. She was a great person to be around.

One of her last wishes was to be able to dance again. Well, we all know that wish was granted. Jesus is twirling her around on the heavenly dance floor in her beautiful sundress. They are dancing amongst the stars, and she is no longer limited to her physical body. She is happy, at peace, and made whole once again!

Cindy is FREE INDEED and she can dance as far as the East is to the West and as the North is to the South. She is united with all her loved ones that went before her. Oh, what a celebration to behold.... I can only imagine!!!

Upon request Cindy's ashes will be spread in a special place to her and our family. We will be having a celebration in her memory sometime in June. If interested in participating in her service, please contact the family at cindaroosy@gmail.com. for details.

Thank you everyone for your love and support! We love you...
