Clyde Melvin Van Pelt, 85, of Pocatello passed away on July 14, 2022 with his loving wife, Lorraine, at his side.
On July 29, 1936, Clyde was born to Lewis Van Pelt and Reina Worthington Van Pelt at Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. They lived in Pineville, Pennsylvania in Bucks County where, as a child, Clyde would assist with the family business, a butcher shop. Clyde graduated from Central Bucks High School in 1954 where he was a pitcher for the baseball team. After graduation Clyde served his country in the United States Army as a Radio Operator and was also a member of the rifle team where he won numerous awards for his marksmanship proficiency.
Clyde married the love of his life, Lorraine Derstine, on September 24th, 1966 and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2021.
In addition to sports, Clyde loved playing chess and pinochle. He enjoyed hunting in Pennsylvania and in many states throughout the west. Clyde was a life-long Phillies and Eagles fan. He had an appreciation for music and particularly the piano.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Van Pelt and Reina Worthington Van Pelt; brothers, Albert and Allen Van Pelt (twins) and Kenneth Van Pelt; and nephew, Allen Van Pelt.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Lorraine Derstine Van Pelt; son, Todd (Stacey) Van Pelt of Perkasie, Pennsylvania; daughter, Kim (Seth) Thompson of Hot Springs, South Dakota; grandchildren, Ashley Dufrane, Benjamin Van Pelt, Jeffrey Van Pelt, Nate Thompson; and one great grandson, Jaxon Dicesare.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to all the staff at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello where he received excellent care.
