Clovis Carlson

July 17, 1957 — May 3, 2019

Clovis Jean Kinney Carlson, age 61, passed away peacefully May 3, 2019. Clovis was born in Pocatello, Idaho on July 17, 1957. Except for a very short time, she lived her entire life in Pocatello. She was the middle child of Donald Max Kinney and Dorthy Jean Kinney. Clovis graduated from Pocatello High School in 1978 and loved the people she attended school with. The high school reunions were each eagerly anticipated. She went on to earn her B.S. and M.S. in Psychology from Idaho State University. She later earned her EdS., also from ISU. She worked the last twenty or so years for District 25 as a school psychologist. She loved her work, her co-workers, and especially working with youth. As a mother of a special needs child herself, she was able to commiserate with other parents in similar circumstances and usually ease their burdens. Prior to working for District 25, she was employed by the State of Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. She especially loved working with the pre-K children and her fellow employees. They still get together and have lunch. She so looked forward to those events and the time she could share with them. We wish we could personally thank and acknowledge everyone she worked with, she loved them all. Clovis was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved attending church and especially teaching Sunday school. She loved "her" children and they loved her. The Highland Fifth Ward was like a family to her. The care and love they showed to her will always be remembered. Clovis was very talented and could do anything! From playing the piano to plumbing and electrical to crochetingthere was nothing she wouldn't tackle. Many babies have been swaddled with her beautiful afghans. Most importantly, Clovis will be remembered for the generosity of spirit, courage, strength, and positive attitude that she shared with everyone she met. Everyone became her lifelong friend! Clovis is survived by her mother, Dorthy Jean Kinney (Pocatello); husband, Garth Carlson; sons, Jon and Matthew Carlson (Pocatello--the loves of her life); sisters, Cora Ann Bohi (husband), Janet Kron (husband); and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Max Kinney. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 am at the LDS church, 2300 Butte St. Pocatello, with a viewing for one and half hours prior to the services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello.
