Charles "Todd" Mumme

October 1, 1949 — October 2, 2021

Charles ‘Todd’ Mumme, age 72, passed away October 2, 2021 due to complications following a stroke. Todd was born October 1, 1949 in Pocatello, ID and was the third of seven children born to Alton and Ruth Mumme.

Todd grew up in Pocatello, ID and attended Whittier Elementary, Hawthorne Middle School and Pocatello High School. Todd enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. when he was 17 years old. He proudly served as a United States Marine serving two terms in the Vietnam War as a Forward Observer (radio man). He was honorably discharged as a Marine in 1974.

Todd married Kayelyn Peck in 1971. Together they had two children; Charles J. and Torie. They were later divorced.

Todd married Melessa ‘Lisa’ Andrew in 1980. They were blessed with three children; Lacy, Daniel, and Lindsey. Todd and Lisa raised their family in McCammon, ID for 15 years. After the passing of his wife in 2002, Todd experienced a void he was never able to fill.

Over the years, Todd had various employment opportunities ranging from Eddy’s Baker in the 1970s to Construction laborer. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a number of years until he had a back injury and was no longer able to perform his duties. It was when he moved to McCammon in the late 1980s that he began working for the Agrium plant in Soda Springs. Todd worked for Agrium for over 15 years. He later retired and enjoyed his children and grandchildren.

Todd was a man of few words. He was selfless and didn’t require attention from others. He never wanted to be a bother to anyone and could often be found in the background quietly helping out. He was hard working and would always tell his children, ‘If you are going to do a job, you may as well do it right.’ Todd was a ‘mover and a goer’ and enjoyed staying busy.

Todd loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. The majority of his life memories were spent in the mountains with those he loved and cared about. When he was in his youth, his Birthday would typically fall on opening day of deer hunting season. So, he spent many Birthdays’ recreating with others. Todd would often hunt with his siblings and shared a special bond with his brothers at Hunting Camp. Todd always cherished his memories of Hunting Camp. He taught his children to love the outdoors and to have a special connection with the mountains. It was the mountains where Todd was able to be who he was and impress upon his children many valuable life lessons. Hunting Camp will never be the same without him.

Todd’s grandchildren referred to him as ‘Papa Todd’ or the ‘Candy Bar Papa.’ He loved Halloween and would purchase large chocolate bars and let the grandkids take as many as they wanted when they came to show off their Halloween costumes while trick or treating. He was also the person who brought the pies to Thanksgiving dinner, making sure everyone had their favorite, even if that meant 15 different kinds.

Later in life, Todd began to slow down and enjoyed the smaller things. He would often drink coffee with his youngest daughter, Lindsey, and spoke on the phone to Daniel and Lacy daily. He formed a special bond with his children after the passing of Lisa. He often jokingly referred to Lacy as his ‘squeaky wheel’ because she made sure he was doing what he needed to be doing and staying out of trouble. Todd had a long-time friend, Ilene Jablonski, in which he and Ilene spent many days enjoying each other’s company. Todd and Ilene had a pet cat they shared, ‘Kitty Purry.’ After Ilene’s passing in 2019, Todd continued to care for that same cat who became a companion as he lived alone. Todd will be remembered as a simple man whose quiet soul and big heart affected many people.

Todd is survived by his siblings, Ruthie (Mumme) Mathews (Lewiston, ID), Marvin ‘Bud’ Mumme (Pocatello, ID), Robert Mumme (Pocatello, ID), Marlene (Mumme) Goddard (Kansas), Donna (Mumme) Radeck (Pocatello, ID); children: Charles J. Mumme (Parker, ID), Torie Mumme (Pocatello, ID), Lacy (Mumme) Parker-Saxton (McCammon, ID), Daniel Mumme (McCammon, ID).

Todd is preceded in death by his wife, Melessa Kae (Andrew) Mumme (McCammon, ID); daughter, Lindsey (Mumme) Peck (Pocatello, ID); brother, David Otto Mumme (Pocatello, ID); parents, Alton and Ruth Mumme (Pocatello, ID).
