Charles Russell Lockhart, Jr.

November 19, 1940 — July 11, 2009

POCATELLO - Charles “Chuck” Russell Lockhart, Jr., 68, passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday, July 11, 2009, after a battle with cancer with his wife at his side. His family honors him for his exceptional courage, perseverance and positive attitude throughout the duration of the disease. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he didn't spend time questioning “why”, rather he concentrated on doing whatever it took to fight to stay alive as long as he could. He is survived by his wife, Lynne, eleven children, and twelve grandchildren.

Chuck was born on November 19, 1940, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, the middle child of three children to Virginia and Charles Russell Lockhart. He learned valuable people and adaptation skills from a childhood of attending 19 schools. He graduated from New Mexico State University. He fulfilled an honorable career in the United States Air Force, finishing as a Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his career he lived all over the world as well as in Ogden, Utah and Pocatello, Idaho. He and his surviving wife, Lynne Lockhart, most recently served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the West Indies Mission, where Chuck also served in the mission presidency. He had an immense love for missionary work and for the people of the West Indies. His service there changed his life forever.

Chuck enjoyed golfing, playing games, woodwork, traveling, reading, cooking, genealogy work, community service and especially spending valuable time with his family and friends. He loved his children and his grandchildren. He spent five years as a volunteer for Hospice, serving as many as he could. He loved life to the fullest and manifested that in every breathe of his life. His positive energy brought life to everything he did; his sense of humor enlightened the lives of those around him as well as lent to endless good times of goofiness with his family. Most of all he loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and His gospel. He always talked about how much the Lord had given him and that he wanted to do whatever it took to serve the Lord so that he could live with Him again. He leaves behind a legacy and testament to those whose lives he touched that will forever be remember. Thank you, Chuck, for your tremendous example and unconditional love. We love you, Chuckles, and will be with you again.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Highland 8th Ward LDS Chapel, 2300 Butte (corner of Butte and Hiskey).
