Chad Knowlton Skaggs, 57, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home Saturday morning December 29, 2018, due to pulmonary illnesses and advanced COPD.
Chad was born January 27, 1961, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of William (Dub) Melvin Skaggs, Jr, and Robbie Knowlton Skaggs.
Chad graduated from Highland High School in Pocatello in 1979 and went on to attend Tulsa Junior College and the reputable Tulsa Welding School for 2 years. He applied his welding expertise in mining, chemical, and petroleum processing plants throughout the West. Chad last worked for Premier Technology in Blackfoot for ten years until his health failed, where he worked on nuclear quality vessels, piping and components and often mentored developing welders.
Chad enjoyed high school athletics, chariot and flat track horse racing and the family farm. He enjoyed finding and fixing old cars. Chad is remembered as one who enthusiastically helped his friends.
Chad married Valerie Zacher and later divorced. He is survived by his two daughters of Pocatello, Chelsea Skaggs (Eric Hall) and Hannah Skaggs, and his granddaughters Kaydence, Adilynn, and River Hall. He is also survived by his mother, Robbie Skaggs Waters and stepfather Robert Waters of Pocatello, sister Jobie Skaggs and nephew Will Ankrum of Illinois, sister Heather Gibson (Kevin) and niece Lily Gibson of Pocatello, and uncles Timothy Knowlton (Nicki) of Texas and Jerry Waters of Pocatello, along with many relatives in Oklahoma.
Chad was preceded in death by his father, all grandparents and one uncle.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and medical staff who supported him through difficult times. We will all miss his positive attitude and great smile.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Chubbuck United Methodist Church, 5147 Whitaker Road. Cremation has been completed.
