POCATELLO-Catherine Sharp, 94, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her daughters home, following a battle with a lingering illness and was surrounded by her family. She was born on July 28, 1916 in Spanish Fork, Utah and was the 11th child of Albert James and Catherine (Braithwaite) Mackley, another sister Martha would join this family two years later. At one year of age the family moved to Teton Valley, Idaho where her father ran a shoe and harness shop in Driggs, also had a small farm in Bates, five miles west of Driggs, this is where Catherine received her education, both in Bates and Driggs. She loved to sing and play the guitar. Catherine began singing in church at age three, standing on a chair, her father would say sing loud so Sister Riplinger can hear. She had the opportunity to be in an operetta at this age also. Catherine needed a doll and rocking chair, but her parents were poor and she wasn't sure she would get what she needed, but Santa came early that year. Catherine had her doll and her brother Robert had made the rocking chair. Catherine married Benjamin Walter Homer on August 4th 1933 and they had fun telling people the date of their marriage and saying their first daughter was born on the 5th, then would wait for the reaction and say three years later 1936. Benjamin and Catherine had three children; Edith Faye Leslie (husband Jim deceased) of Evanston, WY, Benjamin David Homer (deceased), his wife Sandra lives in Estacada, OR and Ardith (Gerald) Ballard of Pocatello, ID. After sixteen years of marriage they divorced. She then married Walter Harper Furness, he was not a well man, and died five and a half years later. He was a good, kind and wonderful man. Catherine married Frank Edward Douglass on July 19, 1955. They adopted Randy Joe as an infant of eight months. Randy is married to his sweetheart Terrie and they reside in Presto, ID. Catherine and Frank were later sealed together in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 24, 1971. In January of 1978 on the 29th day of the month, Frank passed away due to Leukemia. Catherine's last marriage was to Lyman J. Sharp and it took place in the Logan Temple on December 8, 1984. Lyman and Catherine served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Atlanta, Georgia. Both Catherine and Lyman's health began to fail them, both being 86 years old in 2001, Catherine moved to Pocatello, to live with Ardith and Gerald, and Lyman stayed in Preston, but lived with his son Val (Jeralyn) Sharp. Lyman passed away in 2004. Three husbands preceded her in death as well as one son, two great-granddaughters, her parents and ten brothers and a sister. She is the mother of four children, 20 grand children, 38 great-grandchildren, and 48 great great-grandchildren. She has left behind a legacy in her posterity of honesty, hard work, the desire to love one another, to serve God and to keep His commandments.
