Carol Montague, 64, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the home of her daughter. Carol was born May 10, 1951 in Pocatello, Idaho to Lyonal Archibald Montague and Mildred A. Rosdahl. Carol lived in Pocatello all her life and attended Whittier Elementary, Hawthorne Junior High and in 1969, graduated from Pocatello High School and Beauty School. In 1972, Carol gave birth to her first child, Jennifer. In 1978, her second child, Ryan was born. In 1984, God blessed their little family of three with a very special angel, Eric. It was this special child's short life that inspired Carol to follow her dream to become an educator. In August of 1986, she entered Idaho State University and graduated, with honors, four years later with her degree in Education. In August 1990, Carol would begin her career in teaching. She was able to teach for ten amazing years at Indian Hills Elementary, with phenomenal faculty, staff and of course, students. When she was unable to work an entire school year without getting pneumonia, it was decided Carol would need to medically retire. This decision was not an easy one to make and broke her heart. She missed being around her friends and students. Carol was well known for her beautiful smile, wicked wit, and her love of music. She was a member of Gate City Singers in high school and loved performing. This love, of course, overflowed into the classroom, where music could be heard coming from her room while the students worked on their own. We doubt her former students are able to listen to Phantom of the Opera or Garth Brooks without thinking of Ms. Montague and her beautiful voice. Once Carol retired, she threw herself into crafting, embroidery and beading. Nothing could put the sparkle in her eye the way teaching did, until her first grandchild was born. Carol was excited to finally be a Grandma and loved her grandchildren with all her heart and soul. Her favorite thing to do in the summer was to watch Gavyn play baseball. He had no greater fan. Carol also enjoyed spending time with her children, her nieces Celeste and Camille and shopping. Even when her health went from fair to poor, no one could out shop her. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Matthew) Hansen, Pocatello; son, Ryan Buck, Pocatello; sister, Norma (Erwin) Cordell, Chubbuck; grandson, Gavyn Michael Buck, Pocatello; granddaughter, Harper Lily Buck, Idaho Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Eric, sister, Janet Stauffer, and several aunts and uncles. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Alliance Home Health and Hospice for their amazing efforts in taking care of Carol off and on for the last 11 years. We could not have made it through the last five months without Kelly and Peter and their unwavering love, understanding and support. In lieu of flowers, a savings account has been established at Idaho State University Credit Union to assist with expenses. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83201, 208-233-1500. Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 5-7 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home and from 10-10:45 A.M prior to services on Monday. Burial will follow at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
