Carol Louise Doney

November 12, 1936 — November 8, 2021

Carol Louise Faulkner Doney was born on November 12, 1936 to Harry Judson Faulkner and Ina Belle Wilson in Spokane, Washington. She grew up in Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1954. Mom had many fond memories of this time in her life. Her father worked for the US Forest Service and the family spent many summers at the camp in Pierce, Idaho. She spoke often of ice skating in Manito Park, her cat Tiger, and high school activities and classmates. Later in life she was able to attend two class reunions which she enjoyed very much. She attended Washington State College and secretarial school. After completing secretarial school, she found employment as a legal secretary at a prestigious Spokane law firm.

She married Robert Sidney Doney in Spokane on April 4, 1959. In 1963, twin sons John Robert Doney and Eric Robert Doney were born prematurely and passed away in infancy. Daughters Susan Lynne and Marilyn Gail were born in 1964 and 1967.

The family moved from Spokane in 1970 and lived in Boise, Burley and Shoshone Idaho. Mom was a homemaker and stayed home with us until we were older. She went back to work as a clerk at Grosse Drug Store in Shoshone. She then worked at the Shoshone District Office of the Idaho Transportation Department and retired in 1992.

On May 31, 2001, Mom had a major stroke that greatly affected her left side. After receiving treatment at the Elks Rehab in Boise, she came to live with her daughter Susan in Twin Falls and Chubbuck, Idaho. Mom was very brave and tough and she worked diligently to recover from her stroke. She and Susan became very close during the years they lived together. Mom fell and broke her hip in 2018. After recovering from surgery, she could no longer stay home by herself and became a resident of Brookdale Senior Living in Chubbuck Idaho where she lived until her passing. She made many friends there and was loved by all. On October 21, 2021 she was diagnosed with a large and aggressive brain tumor. She bravely decided that she wanted to fight and have the tumor removed, and receive chemotherapy and radiation treatment. However, her health declined and she passed peacefully before the surgery could be performed. Her daughter Susan was able to be with Mom from her diagnosis until her passing on November 8, 2021.

Mom had many hobbies that she enjoyed. She loved growing gladiolas. She would plant her bulbs every year, dig them up in the fall and store them for the winter. Every year there was a vegetable garden, and she canned and froze the garden produce. She and Dad were rockhounds. We made many trips to the middle of nowhere to collect rocks. The rocks were tumbled, polished and made into beautiful jewelry. She enjoyed camping with her family. Mom was an excellent bowler. She was also a crack shot with her .22 pistol. Mom loved her Cardigan Welsh Corgi Lacei and she enjoyed watching the Westminster Dog Shows on TV. She had a lot of fun making beaded jewelry. Mom enjoyed reading the news, checking her e-mail, playing games and shopping on her computer. She loved reading books on her Nook and spent hours every day reading. One of her favorite authors was Stephen King.

She is survived by her daughters Susan Bench of Chubbuck, Idaho and Marilyn Bradford of Boise, Idaho; her brother David Faulkner of Reno, Nevada; niece Amy Hunter of Catlett, Virginia; nephew Scott Faulkner of Reno, Nevada; cousin Diana Barry of Spokane, Washington, and cousin Dick Gipson of Firth, Idaho. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Twiggy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sons, John and Eric Doney; her husband, Robert S. Doney, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

We would like to thank everyone at Brookdale Chubbuck for the excellent care and friendship they provided for Mom. Thanks also to the wonderful people from Encompass Health and Hospice who helped care for her and her family during her illness.
