Carol Drake

December 12, 1940 — August 16, 2021

Mom was born on December 12, 1940 at the old general hospital, to Ralph and Frances Lundquist. She was the oldest of five children.

The family grew and lived in Portneuf Park until grandpa and grandma bought a home on south Grant. Mom helped watch over her younger sisters and baby brother. Truth be told, she was probably a bit of a bully.

As time went on, mom worked at the Chief Theater and Fawson’s Music. She enjoyed both jobs, but loved Fawson’s. While mom was working at the chief theater, a midnight showing of the classic Frankenstein was taking place. Mom worked the ticket window and usherette. After work she had to walk home, but was so frightened by the movie that she ran home.

During the same time, mom was dating two men. Both came to the theater to see what was playing. Mom didn’t know what to do, so she sat one in the balcony and one below. She then left and walked home.

Mom graduated from Pocatello High School in 1959.

She married Gerald Williams in 1960. Their wedding took place in the home of his Grandma Williams. From their union three children were born: Angela Marie in 1961, Michael Ray who was a bundle of joy in 1963, and Kelly Don in 1965. Mom and dad were later divorced. She always swore she’d never marry again.

Then one fateful day, mom met Edwin Drake at a dance. She fell head over heels in love. Mom and Ed were married in 1985 and their marriage lasted 36 years. She loved going with him on his truck all over the western United States. Mom and Ed were a match made in heaven.

Mom worked all of her life. If she wasn’t busy, she’d go crazy. She worked at the Chief Theater, Fawson’s Music, Fargos, Lamb Weston, Levines, and finally at AMI.

Mom loved to travel. She was well known for great adventures and getting lost. She dearly loved visiting grandma and grandpa in Boise; visiting Angela and her family in Roosevelt, Utah; visiting Aunt Sonja on the Oregon coast; and visiting Aunt Margo in Missouri.

As mom got older she was hit with dementia. Mom won the battle and returned home to the waiting arms of Jesus. What a glorious reunion must be taking place!

Mom passed on Monday August 16, 2021. She left us peacefully in her sleep and she is dearly missed.

Mom was preceded in death by her mother and father, daughter Angela, grandson Keelan, and her husband Edwin.

She is survived by her sons Michael (Lynda) and Kelly (Kathy), adopted daughter Christina, and by her two step-children Charles and Kat. Mom is also survived by her grandchildren Katie, Mandy, Tashina, Dawn, Kenny, Casey, and many great-grandchildren as well as step-grandchildren.

We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Brookdale Chubbuck. Each and every one of you are angels. Thank you to Encompass Home Health and Hospice. We can’t thank you all enough for the love and kindness that you gave to mom.

And a very big thank you to Wilks Funeral Home. Your kindness and gentleness will always be remembered.

The Watcher
She always leaned to watch for us.
Anxious if we were late.
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate.

And though we mocked her tenderly,
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem
More safe because she waited there.

Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget!
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.

Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late,
Watching from Heaven’s window,
Leaning from Heaven’s gate.

Margaret Widdewer (1884-1978)
