She was born in Brigham City, Utah, to Cyril Hyrum and Nella Holst Housley on October 26, 1923. She grew up in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Shirley Clifford Beard and they were married in the Logan LDS Temple on June 8, 1945.
