Camille Navo George, 92 years old, began her journey to the Spirit World on March 14, 2018. She was born on March 4, 1926 to Charlie Navo and Zuni White Bear in Lincoln Creek, Idaho. Her paternal grandparent was "Zippuh-dugi", Lemhi Shoshone, and maternal grandfather Old Man White Bear, Lemhi Shoshone, and maternal grandmother May Hammer, Bannock Indian.
Camille spent her childhood in Lincoln Creek, following the death of her father, her family moved to Salmon, Idaho. In 1927, while attending a cultural ceremony in Fort Hall, she met and married the love of her life, Wilford George. They made their home in the traditional homeland of Salmon, Idaho, where her family lived.
After raising their children, they moved to the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. Following her husband's passing, she continued to spend her golden years in Fort Hall and was cared for by her daughter Rozina and granddaughter Zahnive.
Throughout her life, Camille was acknowledged as a bead-work artist both locally and nationally. She was also recognized for her cultural knowledge and wisdom and will always be remembered for her kindness and willingness to share traditional ways and teachings. Throughout the years, she also participated in preserving cultural history in documents and media. One of her noted contributions was to assist with establishment of the Sacajawea Interpretive Center in Salmon, Idaho. Camille was the oldest living member of Sacajawea's people.
Camille is survived by her three daughters, Rose Ann Abrahamson, Rozina and Emma George, and numerous grandchildren, great-children, and one great-great grandchild. She also has numerous extended familial relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wilford (Willie), three sons, parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents and relatives.
Traditional viewing/services for Camille will be held at her residence on Ferry Butte and Bannock Road. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday. Burial services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Salmon Cemetery in Salmon, Idaho.
