Calvin Mercer, 87, was born on September 6, 1929 in Morgan Township, Missouri to Voy and Josie Mercer. He passed away on July 18, 2017 in Pocatello, Idaho of natural causes. Cal was the eldest of five children. When he was six, the family moved to Salmon, Idaho, where they lived until 1941. That year the family moved to Butte, Montana, where Cal attended Washington Junior High and his father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1943 Cals father was transferred to Pocatello, where Cal attended Pocatello High School. Cal began work with Union Pacific in 1950 as a fireman and by the time he retired in 1992, he was an engineer. Cal married Marie York in 1951 and they had two sons, Larry (Norielyn) and Kerry. The couple divorced in 1978. In 1990 Cal married Lolita Tobias and they remained together until Cals death. Cal enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling, and bowling. From 1992 until 2006 he and Lolita spent the winters in Southern California in their RV; traveling to Pocatello for half of each year. Cal is survived by his wife, Lolita; and his two sons. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Norma and Agnes; and two baby brothers, Gordon and George. A celebration of Cals life will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 7 pm at the Portneuf Wellness Complex - Pavilion #2, 10588 Fairground Dr., Pocatello, ID 83201.
