C. Lee Caldwell

On January 27th, our kind and devoted father passed away peacefully at home.

Callis Lee Caldwell was born in Washington D.C. on October 7, 1946 to Callis and Vera Caldwell. As the oldest of 4 children, he was raised by loving parents who laid a foundation for his love for the gospel. Lee was raised in Pocatello, Idaho on Hyde Street. He attended Pocatello High until his junior year, after which he was a member of the first graduating class at Highland High School in 1964. He participated in tennis, the band, and the symphonic orchestra. He was the pep band director his senior year.

After high school he attended one year at Idaho State University after which he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the French mission for 2 and ½ years. When he returned, he attended Ricks College. He got a job at J.C Penney Company in Old Town Pocatello which would turn out to be the best decision he ever made. It was there that he met Cherrill LaWan Millward, whom he would always say was the best thing he ever got at J.C. Penney. They were married on June 5, 1970 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

He joined the National Guard and then, after their wedding, he and LaWan moved to Provo where they continued their education at BYU and started their family. Lee got his degree in accounting and got his C.P.A. shortly after. From then on he worked in various accounting firms in Pocatello until he started his own practice in 1990. During that time he filled his life with service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in several stake presidencies, as bishop, as stake young men's president and various other callings. He was happiest when he was serving the Lord and developed many friendships through his service that he cherished his whole life. His ability to teach the gospel was a blessing to the lives of many, particularly his children. He knew the scriptures and their teachings and had a gift in teaching them that brought his adult children back home just to study scriptures with dad. His love for music was his other passion. He loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and would regularly be caught directing the choir in the living room while listening. He accomplished many amazing feats in his life, including surviving 43 tax seasons and raising 7 children, but the thing we will remember him most for is the dedicated care he gave to our sweet mom as she struggled through MS. He made her laugh every day and found joy in a simple smile. Since her passing in August of 2015, he has missed her every day and has never been the same. His heart could not be without her for long. It was, no doubt, a sweet reunion for Lee and LaWan Caldwell.

He is survived by 7 of his children, Alison (Bill) Fullmer of Pocatello, Blaine (Kim) Caldwell of Ammon, ID, Jeff (Katy) Caldwell of Ammon, ID, Doug (Marie) Caldwell of West Bountiful, UT, Mandy Caldwell of Pocatello, Natalie Caldwell of Murray, UT, Dana (Dan) Murphy of West Bountiful, UT; 24 grandchildren; sisters, Calene Peck (Dave), Cheryl Price (Jim), and his brother Bruce Caldwell (Kat). He was preceded in death by his sweetheart LaWan; his parents; infant twin daughters; and 3 infant grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3rd at the Pocatello Idaho North Stake Chapel at 4890 Whitaker Road. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2nd at Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Road and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow services in the Mountain View Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Idaho Kidney Institute for their wonderful care and attention to our dad. We want to especially thank his nurse, Brooke, an angel, for going above and beyond to help us care for our dad. We also want to thank the Canterbury Ward for their continued love.
