'Bud' Robert William Hamlett

May 25, 1921 — August 22, 2010

Robert William "Bud" Hamlett, our beloved husband, father, step-father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born on May 25, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas to Robert Woodrow and Edith Means Hamlett. When he was 4 years old, his family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. His parents divorced and in 1936, Bud and his mother moved to Myers Cove (near Salmon) to live with his mother's uncle Frank Allison. When his mother married Forrest Jones, they moved to his ranch which was later sold to the Hecla Mining Corp. and became the town site of Cobalt, Idaho.

He was married to Jacquelyn Williams on October 12, 1944. They were later divorced. On August 5, 1967 he married Faye Dilkes Jones in Salmon, Idaho.

Bud worked for the Forest Service for several years. He then worked for the Hecla Mining Co. at the Blackbird Mine. He hauled the ore from the mine to Mackay. In 1952 he and his family moved to Pocatello and he began working for Garrett Freight Lines as a line driver. He remained in this position until ill health forced his retirement in 1977.

He served in the Army Air Corps from early 1942 until he received a hardship discharge in late 1943 because of his step-fathers stroke.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge #674. His main hobbies were golf, yard work, and his favorite wintertime hobby; jigsaw puzzles. He and his wife also traveled a great deal which included taking four cruises and a month long trip to Europe in the early 1980's. He liked to fish, camp, and hike when his health allowed.

He is survived by his wife, Faye; a son, Robert D. in Boise; a daughter, Roba (Marvin) Johnson, in Emmett; a step-son, Dennis A. Jones, in Nampa; a step-daughter, Cheryl Tolman, in Pocatello; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, and two sisters.

A celebration of life will be held for Bud & Faye at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Road. A light lunch will be served.
