On April 16, 2012 Bruce Edwin Hansen returned to our Father in Heaven. The following is his self-written obituary.
“Well sir, iffen you are a reading this while you're a sittin' at your kitchen table, or perhaps in your easy chair after a hard day's work, and you're a perusin' the obits looking for someone you know or more likely someone around your age and you see a picture of some handsome devil at the top of this column. It means the journal went and mixed up my picture with some other poor soul!
I decided I would write my own obit simply because who knows you better than yourself, and I can tell lies about myself just as well, probably better, as someone else. First of all I would like to thank some people. I would like to thank my parents for bringing me into this world, Bernard L. Hansen and Bonnie Huddleston Hansen Schulenberg. Thank you, I know you did your best. I would like to thank my sisters, and brother, Barbara Hansen (Geri Aman), Brenda Hansen-Coats (Douglas Coats), and Robert Hansen (Julie)…next time will be better. During my life there were many people that helped and guided me on my way. I wished I could name all of you. There are, however, three families that literally saved my life & kept me on the straight and, well, somewhat narrow path: The Darreled Walton family of Blackfoot; Joe and Lila Olesen family of Blackfoot; and Al & Annette Guthrie family of Lava. Sometimes the words “Thank You” are not enough. I am afraid that I did not realize my debt to you folks till it was too late. I apologize for that. I have tried to live a life that reflects your faith in me & the fact that you took me in during times, without any questions on your part, thank you. I would like last of all to thank my family, sons William, Jed & daughter Bonnie. I am so glad & proud you chose me as your father. Thank you. I would like to thank my wife Colleen for putting up with me all these years. I wish there were more. I wouldn't trade any of it for anything. I have loved her more than life itself. Thank you Colleen. I would also like to say to my grandkids Ottavia, Tanisha, Tayler, Sawyer, and Heston; I love you guys & thanks for all your help. And Sydney, you take care of yourself & thank you for everything, especially those grandkids. Boy I bet this is going to cost a pretty penny, but, what do I care? I'm dead, HOOEEE!
Well I guess I'll wrap this up. I'm going to go ahead and & start up that draw & brush it to the top. I know there's someone a waitin' up there ‘cause I can smell the fire. Maybe they saved me some sheep herder coffee like Annette makes so well. Take care everybody, see ya on the ridge.”
Please take a moment to share your condolences, a short story, or any photos of Bruce you wish to share with his family at this time.
