Bruce Austin Brown, 76, passed away on May 22, 2024, in Chubbuck, Idaho of Alzheimer’s. He was born to Robert Nelson and Florence Pauline Brown on March 24, 1948, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Rebecca Rowe Brown and daughter Robin (Dawn) Landsverk; older brother Duane Brown and sister-in-law Glenda and descendants; younger sister Joyce Locke and brother-in-law Patrick and descendants. He is predeceased by his parents, a stillborn sister, Marilyn and an older brother Richard Leroy.
After graduating from Pocatello High School in 1966, he attended Idaho State University and Magic Valley Christian College before graduating from the Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, TX. in 1973.
Bruce and his young family then moved to Rogersville, Missouri where he preached for the Church of Christ for 3 1/2 years. He served in Seneca, Missouri from 1976 to 1980 and then Liberty, Missouri, from 1980 to 1981. In 1981, the opportunity arose for a return to Pocatello, Idaho to preach for the same Church of Christ where he was baptized and married. After 8 years in Pocatello, he decided to relocate to Grass Valley, California, where he served for almost 3 years. His last 28 years as an evangelist were spent in Richmond, California. Bruce loved California but always thought of Pocatello as home, so he and his wife Becky retired to Pocatello.
Aside from his devotion to God, the churches he served, and some special friends, Bruce also loved his family. He was always clear that it was right to love God and people, but things of this world should be enjoyed and liked, not loved. He enjoyed long drives in the country, going for walks, spending time at the Coast or in the mountains, traveling virtually anywhere, eating in restaurants, watching classic tv programs and movies, and listening to 1950’s and 1960’s music.
Bruce’s memorial service will be at the Church of Christ, 3224 Hawthorne Road, Pocatello, Idaho on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 10:00 am.
