Brian Housely

Brian George Housley died in his home early Friday morning, August 29, 2008, due to brain tumors. He spent his life being a friend and an example of kindness to everyone he met. Brian and his twin brother, Jason, were born in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 22, 1986, to Ken and Barbara Housley. Beginning at age two, Brian suffered from brain tumors, causing blindness and other complications. He was always brave and patient. At age five, he moved with his family to Boston and began school and then moved with his family, at age eleven, to Idaho Falls and later Pocatello. Brian graduated June 2006 from Highland High School and Highland LDS seminary. Following high school, Brian worked mornings as a reading tutor for first and second graders at Franciscan Cre-Act School. He loved the students and his work with them. Afternoons, he enjoyed shopping, bowling, and playing games with his friends and the staff at Southeast Idaho Developmental Center. Brian enjoyed folding and cutting paper, making crafts, collecting PEZ candy dispensers, playing Uno, checkers, and Name-that-Tune, among other games. He especially enjoyed telling jokes. As a youth, he participated in scouting, earning Eagle rank. Brian loved doing things together as a family. He enjoyed staying with family at the Blanchard Ranch in Victor, Idaho. He particularly loved camping. Every summer he looked forward to camping with Grandpa and Grandmother Housley and their friends, his "Camping Buddies." Brian was active in the LDS church and served in the Aaron Priesthood and then as an Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood. He was a devoted home teacher. Brian is survived by his parents, Kenneth Dean and Barbara (Blanchard) Housley; his brothers, Jason Keith and Kevin Wayne Housley; his sister Laura Joy Housley; grandparents, Gary N. and Anna Lou (Johnson) Blanchard and Conn L. and Vera Jean (Petty) Housley, all of Pocatello, Idaho. A public viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, September 2, 2008, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., Pocatello, Idaho. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11:00 AM, September 3, 2008, at the Gwen LDS Building, 1533 Gwen Drive, Pocatello, Idaho. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral, 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will be at Rest Lawn Cemetery, Pocatello, Idaho
