Dr. Brent Ray Johnson passed away December 15, 2016, in Pocatello. He was born December 19, 1946, in San Diego to Dorothy Fay Allen and Dr. Max Ray Johnson, moving shortly thereafter to Pocatello. He was raised in Pocatello, the oldest of 5 kids, and from an early age he loved horses, hunting and spending time at the family cabin in Palisades. In 1965 he graduated from Pocatello High School where he was active in football and band. He attended and played football at Idaho State University before serving an LDS mission to Auckland, New Zealand. After transferring to Brigham Young University, he graduated in 1971 and on December 27, 1971 married Cathleen Clayson of Pocatello in the Logan Utah temple. In 1975 he graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. One of the joys of his life was returning to Pocatello to practice dentistry with his father, whom he had a tremendous relationship with. He cared deeply about his patients and staff, and it was important to him that they were cared for with integrity and gentleness. In 1978 Brent and Cathy moved to Inkom, where they raised their 4 boys along with assorted horses and mules. His passions included riding in the Idaho mountains and hunting with friends. He also enjoyed following BYU sports, shooting, and recently, woodworking. He was seldom found without a book, studying up on his many interests. He especially cherished any time with his dear friends, his beloved sons and their families. Amongst his greatest strengths were generosity, caring, and a determination to work as hard as he could and do it as fast as he could. His belief was that while he was not overly talented, he could achieve his goals through a ferocious work ethic. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a Bishopric, High Council, and teaching gospel doctrine. He was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandpa, and was committed to lifelong study of the gospel of Christ. He truly tried to be a better man every day. He is survived by his wife, Cathleen who he adores; sons, Clinton Ray (Andrea and grandchildren Pierce Ray, Cole and Cooper Rex) of Phoenix, Seth Vidmar (Suzette and grandchildren Dylan Vidmar, Tyler, Mackenzie, Emily, Lindsey) of Inkom, Lucas Brent (Tiffany and grandchildren Jaxson, Eva, Carter, Elena and Naomi Cathleen) of Inkom, and Benjamin Roy (Pocatello); his brother, Dennis (Sheila); sisters, Suzan (Kurttis Smith) and Joyce (Richard Higham) and sister-in-law Kolay Johnson; mother-in-law, Dorothy Clayson Sargent; and sister-in-law, Loralee (Chris Schut). He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David F. Johnson; father-in-law, Rex Vidmar Clayson; and brother-in-law, Steven Clayson. A viewing will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 from 5-7 pm at the LDS Jackson Creek Ward Chapel, 150 Snow Peak Blvd. Inkom, ID 83245. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 11 am also at the church in Inkom with a viewing for one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at the Inkom Cemetery.
