Brent Laverne Bertsch, 64, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on June 9, 2023. Brent's battle with multiple sclerosis began at the young age of 15. His long fight with MS showed his courage in facing life challenges with a sense of humor and bravery.
Brent was born on May 1, 1959 in Rupert, Idaho to Delbert and Lorraine Bertsch. He attended Pocatello schools, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1977. Brent's first jobs were as dishwasher at the Chopstick Cafe and a shoe salesman on Main Street in downtown Pocatello. In his early twenties he started his employment with the Union Pacific Railroad pounding spikes on the tracks. With hard work and dedication he was eventually promoted to an engineer. His multiple sclerosis forced him into an early retirement in 2001.
Brent had an adventurous zest for life when he was physically able. He was a remarkable snow and water skier and made many long distance bike trips with friends. He was also a mechanic at heart and loved tinkering with cars. Brent was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had a big heart and was very generous and thoughtful.
Brent is survived by his dad, Del Bertsch, his sisters Cyndie Meline (Bob) and Shannon Bertsch Libby (Harold) as well as two nieces and a nephew, Nikki Meline (Ethan Ostrom) and Parker and Alisha Libby.
Brent was preceded in death by his mom, Lorraine Bertsch, and is now happily reunited with her. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity and strength. Brent will be missed everyday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National MS Society in Brent's name. To honor Brent's memory please spend some time in the great outdoors with your loved ones.
