Brent Vaughn Asper

August 13, 1968 — January 29, 2025

Chubbuck

Brent Vaughn Asper returned home to his Heavenly Father on January 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. While we mourn his passing, we rejoice in the knowledge of the plan of salvation and that families are eternal.

He was born August 13, 1968 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Vaughn and Virginia Asper. He was the oldest of 6 children. Brent was a rambunctious young boy who loved riding bikes, swimming in the ditch in front of the house, skiing, and helping his parents on their milk routes. He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1986. He then continued his education at Eastern Idaho Vo-Tech and received his Certificate of Applied Science in Welding. He worked several jobs around American Falls and Pocatello. He eventually became a Certified Weld Inspector and began working at the Idaho National Laboratory in the Naval Reactor Facility.

It was a warm August night in 1988 when he met Melissa Geisler, a few weeks later he knew she was the love of his life when she invited him to go deer hunting. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls, Idaho temple on July 21, 1990. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and a shared love for the outdoors. They raised five wonderful children; Tyler, Ashley, Nathan, and twin daughters, Autumn and Amber, who all were the joy of Brent’s life.

Brent was an avid outdoorsman, and Idaho was the perfect playground for him and his wife to raise their family. Camping was a family favorite that they did no matter the time of year. Along with camping came hunting, fishing, and dirt biking. He hunted during both bow and rifle season. He loved taking his wife and kids on different hunting adventures, and eventually got to take some of his grandchildren along as well. Starting in December he could usually be found on the ice of a nearby reservoir. He would be running around baiting poles and getting everything set up while everybody else caught fish. As soon as the snow melted and the trails opened up Brent and his family could be found on their dirt bikes, and they rode every chance they got. They loved a good single track trail that got them as far off the beaten path as possible. Eventually, they started doing multi-day rides that allowed them to camp off of their bikes in the middle of the wilderness. He completed a 10 day solo excursion, called the Tour of Idaho. It spanned from the border of Utah all the way to the Canadian border. These journeys were a highlight of Brent’s life. He loved showing pictures and talking about their adventures to anybody who would listen.

Brent wasn’t just an adventurer; he was a man of service. He never passed up an opportunity to help someone in need. If a stranger was stuck on a remote mountain road, Brent was there with a tow rope. If a trail was blocked by fallen trees, he was the first to clear the way. He even rigged a stand on his dirt bike for his chainsaw, ensuring he could clear paths as he rode. Whether on the trails or in everyday life, Brent was always making the road smoother for those who followed. That legacy of service extended beyond the mountains; he lived to uplift those around him, often in quiet and unseen ways.

He was a self proclaimed YouTube mechanic. There was never a project he came across that he couldn’t fix with his own two hands, whether it be in his own garage, or out in the middle of nowhere.

Brent’s faith was a guiding force in his life. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings, but one of his greatest joys was his 13 years as a Scoutmaster. He set an ambitious goal for his scouts to camp once a month to earn the coveted *100 Days and Nights of Camping* patch. Under his leadership, they accomplished it. He also took his scouts on incredible hikes, conquering Mount Borah, Table Rock, Mount Timpanogos, and backpacking into The White Clouds. Most recently, he served as a Primary teacher, a calling he loved dearly.

Brent is survived by his wife, Melissa Asper; his children, Tyler (Miranda) Asper, Ashley (Blake) Wilson, Nathan Asper, Autumn Asper, and Amber Asper; and his five beloved grandchildren, Stetsyn, Sterling, Nora, Sawyer, and Oliver. He is also survived by his father, Vaughn Asper; his siblings, Janel (Greg) Campbell, Karen Hiatt, Neal (Errica) Asper, Laura Corrales, and Mark (Michelle) Asper; his in-laws, Lee and Eileen Geisler; and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Asper; his grandson, Stryker Asper; and his grandparents, Joe and Lova Sievers, and Claude and Donnetta Asper.

Brent’s passing leaves an empty space in our hearts, but we take comfort in knowing he is not gone; he is simply clearing the trails ahead of us. Just as he spent his life making the path easier for others, we know he is now doing the same in heaven, preparing the way for his family to follow. His love, his laughter, and his unshakable faith will forever guide those he leaves behind.

Until we ride again.
