Brenda Lee Van Breneman, 83, passed away on February 14, 2024.
Brenda was the first child born to Norma Dalpino Breneman and Noel Kenneth Breneman on Christmas day 1940 here in Idaho.
Brenda and her family spent a few years in California after WWII and then moved to back to Howe, Idaho to work on the family farm. They lived in Howe for a few years, eventually finding their way to Pocatello.
She attended Washington Elementary School, Alameda Junior High and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1959. After high school, she attended Links Business College. She worked at Job Services of Idaho for several years and eventually opened Southwest Designs in Pocatello. She and her husband Harvey Pickens took over management of the Pine Ridge Motel & Oxbow bar that was owned by her parents and successfully saved the property from foreclosure.
Brenda inherited her father’s love of baseball, playing on school teams and municipal leagues. She was such a talented artist that her father promised her a horse when she was able to do portraits. Her first horse was named “Flicka”. She was a certified “Horse Nut”, owning several horses when she was young. Then later owned, trained and bred some excellent Quarter horses that did very well in the racing circuits in the Western States.
Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, brother Troy Breneman and grandson, Justin Kynaston.
She is survived by her daughter, Cory Kyanston, and son, Kelly Kynaston (Charlene). She has 3 living grandchildren: Devri Breneman (Avery), Brody Morford and Hailey Spratt (Forrest). Five great grandchildren: Rose, Aria, Daxton, Aspen and Timber. Sister Neola Dahlquist (Andy).
She will be remembered for her laugh and fun loving nature. Brenda passed away peacefully on Valentine’s Day February, 14th 2024. She was well loved and cared for by those around her. She will be missed greatly.
A memorial will be held at 10am April 12th at Restlawn Cemetery in Pocatello.
