Bonnie Lee Smith

January 30, 1953 — December 7, 2021

Bonnie Lee Smith passed away on Tuesday, December 7th, 2021 at the age of 68 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was a caring mother and grandmother and never gave up on her loved ones and family. She was known for being a listening ear and doing what she could to help others.

Bonnie was born on January 30, 1953 in Burley, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Crystal Dawn Smith, and her parents, Homer Henry Barker and Bettie Lou Teal. She is survived by her two sons, James William Smith (Katie) and Joshua Gene Smith (Annica). Bonnie was the 4th child of Homer and Bettie, and is survived by her siblings Gaylord Keith Barker (Tamara), Mary Lou Schiers (James “Jim”), Don Henry Barker (Mary Elizabeth “Becky”), and Homer Harry Barker (Audrey). Bonnie is also survived by all of her grandchildren, Rebecca “Becky”, Brandon, William, Madelyn “Maddy”, Chloe and Jaxon.

As a child, Bonnie really loved horses. When she was about 5 years old, she had a horse named Buttons. She was commonly found out in the pasture riding Buttons, and no one knew how she was able to sit on him. One day, her family woke up to the sound of little feet going through the house. When they followed the sound, they saw Bonnie climbing up to get some bread. They followed her outside to the pasture and found her bribing Buttons with it. When Buttons leaned down to eat the bread, Bonnie climbed on his neck. After that, she was seen out in the pasture with him often. When he passed away, she took her blankets down to be with him.

As an adult, her love of horses continued and she also loved other animals. She loved her birds, dogs, and other pets. One of her hobbies was to make jewelry. She liked to go crystal hunting. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bonnie loved to spend time outdoors fishing, camping, and hunting, and always enjoyed those things the most when she could do them with her family. She consistently showed her family how much she loved them.

Bonnie’s remains will be laid to rest sometime in the spring beside her daughter Crystal at the Elba Grandview Cemetery in Elba, Idaho.

We are respecting Bonnie’s wishes and are not having a funeral for her, but would love it if you would like to pay your respects by sharing a comment or a memory of her here in the "Share a memory" section above.
