Blaine R. Nalder, 74, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 19, 1949, in Ogden, Utah, to Reed William Nalder Sr. and Margaretha Nelestein, Blaine was the sixth of fourteen children.
From a young age, Blaine showed a keen interest in masonry, a trade he learned from his father. His dedication and skill led him to work in various states, including California, New York, Kansas, and Hawaii, where he built barracks for married service members. In 1970, he settled in Pocatello and established his own business, B&R Masonry.
In 1992, Blaine discovered his long-lasting passion for excavation, founding a thriving business that continues to prosper due to the work ethic he instilled in his sons and grandchildren.
Blaine married Betty Cellan, and together they had four daughters: Dorinda, Dolly, Dixie, and Dana. After their divorce, Blaine married Tina Carter on August 29, 1975. They had three sons: Michael, Jarod, and Matthew. Blaine was known for his resilience, overcoming many challenges throughout his life. He persevered by working in the timber industry, selling firewood, logs for homes, and fence posts. He was resourceful, collecting aluminum cans and metals and plowing snow with his 4-wheeler to make extra money.
Blaine had a generous spirit, often taking his sons' friends under his wing and teaching them the value of hard work and the importance of family. He unofficially adopted Doug Shepherd, Troy Roberts, and many others. Blaine's greatest passion was the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He cherished his trips to Alaska for fishing and Canada for caribou hunting.
Blaine is survived by his devoted wife, Tina; his children Dorinda, Dixie, Michael, Jarod, and Matt; siblings Alan, Diane, Jerry, Sandra, Calvin, Debra, and Curt; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Reed Jr., Dennis, Randy, and Rodney; sisters Loraine and Karen; two daughters, Dana and Dolly; and four grandchildren, Desmeray, Caleb, Davey, and Connor.
