Billy George Guinn

Billy George Guinn, 64, passed away on September 20, 2022, at his home with his family by his side. He lost his battle with cancer after fighting hard for 17 months.

He was born on July 16, 1958, in Pocatello, Idaho to Billy Guinn, Sr and Margaret Guinn. Billy was the middle child of 5 other siblings and lived in Pocatello his whole life.

Bill attended Jefferson Elementary School, Irving Junior High and then Pocatello High School. He also graduated from Idaho State University.

Bill met the love of his life, Nancy Jewell Etheredge, and was married on August 27, 2009. They were the best of friends and loved doing all their favorite things together. They joined their wonderful families and have 7 children and 12 grandchildren between them.

He had a great sense of humor and always made you laugh. His smile and laugh were very contagious.

Bill could make a friend with anybody and was always striking up conversations with strangers. When he would go to a store or restaurant, he always asked the person who was helping him how their day was going. He genuinely cared about people.

He always looked forward to our weekly game night with family. It was always guys against the girls in a game of sequence. There was always lots of laughing, singing, and great times involved.

Bill loved to fish with friends and family. He loved taking his wife fishing to Twin Lakes. His boys loved to fish with their dad and the grandkids thought it was fun to get to go out on Grandpa’s fishing boat.

He loved to go golfing with his family. He went on many golfing trips with his father-in-law to Mesquite, St. George, and Phoenix.

Bill also loved camping, going to concerts, and going to plays at the Tuacahn in St. George with his wife.

Bill worked at FMC for 25 years and then when the plant shut down, he went to ISU and graduated in criminal justice. He worked at the Sheriff’s Office for a year, and then got hired at the City of Chubbuck in the Parks & Recreation Department. After a few years of hard work, he got promoted to the Parks & Recreation Superintendent. He took great pride in making sure that the parks were beautiful and well taken care of. He made many great relationships with his co-workers at the city. After his cancer diagnosis and many months of chemotherapy treatment, he took an early retirement.

He wanted to help people and when he was sick from his chemotherapy treatment, it wasn’t unusual to find him at the neighbor’s house mowing their lawn. That’s the type of person Bill was. He was selfless, kind, and loved unconditionally. Bill will be missed by everyone that knew him. His kind spirit touched many lives.

Bill was preceded in death by his daughter Jaylene Guinn, mother and father Bill and Margaret Guinn, brother Larry Guinn, sister Jenna Bailey, nephew Weston Bailey, and brother-in-law Alan Jewell.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Guinn; sons Jared (Autumn) Guinn and Billy (Brittney) Guinn Jr.; stepdaughters Tawnya (Curtis) Nelson, Hailey Etheredge, and Allie Etheredge; stepson Casey (Marisa) Etheredge; grandchildren Khloe, Kale, Korbyn, Koyote, Kilian, Harper, Kaleb, Jacobey, Makenzie, Evie, Penelope, and Felix; brothers Randy (Debbie) Guinn and Jerry (Tonia) Guinn; sister Leesa Burmester.

Bill’s family would like to offer a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Portneuf Cancer Center, and to the nurses with Heritage Home Health and Hospice for their great care.

A Celebration of Bill’s life will be announced and held at a later date.
