POCATELLO-Beverly was born Feb. 26, 1921, to John Melvin and Hannah Warren Cherrington, in Salem, Utah. She is the youngest of four children and the only girl with three older brothers. Beverly graduated from Provo High School in 1939 where she was active in the Dramatic Art Club, Opera 39, Accapella Choir, and the Legislative Council. When she was 18 she was chosen as the "Goddess of Peace" for the Fourth of July celebration in Provo. She modeled and made several appearances in the local paper. She was an excellent seamstress and she trained with her step-mom, Allie, who owned a beauty shop and became a skilled cosmetologist. At the beginning of World War II, she went to work at a gun plant in Salt Lake City, where she met her husband of nearly 60 years, Bernard (Bernie) Ziegler. Together they raised five children, Mary, John (deceased), Carolyn, Paula and Jeff. In 1956, they made their home to Pocatello, where Paula and Jeff were born. On her 52nd birthday Bernie gave her an easel, oil paints and brushes. She was an artist waiting for a chance to create. She took her first oil painting class at the Pocatello Art Center from the late Clara Knapp. She had become an accomplished oil painter and watercolorist. She had studied with outstanding artists, Don Ricks, Oliver Parsons, Cathleen Murdock, Dwight Williams, Gloria Miller, George Wise, and Dava Daulgren. She has also mastered working with colored pencils, pastels, weaving, spinning yarn, making paper, stamp art and the art of Chinese painting. Chinese painting taught her discipline by using its philosophy, "opening my mind and softening my heart," which has helped her in whatever medium she is creating. Beverly taught painting classes at the Senior Center and at the Art Center. She has been a member of the Pocatello Art Group for many years, and has served on the board of directors. She later was an adviser and volunteer at the Pocatello Art Center. She belonged to the Weavers Guild in Twin Falls, Idaho, where she and Bernie lived for 10 years after his retirement. While in Twin Falls, she displayed her art at the Larson Gallery in downtown Twin Falls. She is also a member of the Pocatello Women's Club, where she has met women who have become an important part of her life. She loved to cook and entertain friends. She was also an avid gardener. Beverly is known for the beautiful hats she w0re and her impeccable fashion sense. She was a remarkable woman who learned to drive at age 72. She loved to read and since she had difficulty getting around these past months, her books had given her great pleasure. Beverly is survived by her children, Mary Sherwood (Paul), Pocatello, Carolyn Konczos, Boise, Paula Anderson (Gary), Spokane, WA, and Jeff Ziegler (Rhys), Layton, UT., and grandchildren George, John, Tori, Erin, Liz, Natalie, Beverly, Priscilla, and Matt and one great grandson, Brennon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie, a son, John, her brothers, Ralph, Fay, and Sterling. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Colonial Funeral Home at 1:00 pm.
