Beverly June Leighton

d. February 19, 2019

Beverly June Robinson Leighton was born on June 1, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho, to her father, Paul Millican Robinson, and her mother, Zella Julia Norton. She was greeted by a big brother and later became the big sister to three sisters and two brothers. Her childhood playground was the South 3 rd Ave. neighborhood in Pocatello, running the streets with her siblings, cousins and friends. Visiting the local grocery store and buying a loaf of bread for 10 cents, four cans of soups for 25 cents and a pound of hamburger for 12 cents. Beverly was briefly married in 1952, that union produced five children. She married William (Bill) Arthur Leighton on August 5, 1966, in Pocatello, Idaho, when she was 30 years old. Together they enjoyed 50 years of marriage until Bills passing on June 29, 2017. In 1972 they moved to Page, Arizona, and later to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Beverly worked at local banks (Zions Bank). Returning to Pocatello in 1978, she worked at First Security Bank which became Wells Fargo. With over 30 years of service, Beverly retired from banking. Beverly enjoyed gardening, canning, had a love of reading and was a master quilter. Anyone receiving one of her quilts certainly holds a masterpiece. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family. She was the matriarch of the Robinson Cousins Annual Reunion. Throughout the years, she maintained contact with all thirty-one first cousins, always encouraging them to stay connected. Beverly was blessed, or some may say cursed, with "Robinson Stubbornness", which is defined by a combination of several virtues: Determination, Honesty, Kindness and Unconditional Love. She would always state her opinion never out of malice or righteousness, only out of unconditional love. She never blamed or made excuses for the challenges in her life. She will live forever in our memories for the love and support that she gave. Beverly, at age 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Charles Henry "Willy" (Nancy) and Roy Paul (Sandra); a sister, Delores Pauline Benedetti (Peter); and 13 first cousins. Beverly is survived by a brother, Donald Lee (Jeanie); two sisters, Shirley May Purkett (George) and Alice Etta Lewis (Randall); four sons, Ronald Lee Sortor (Loraine), Donald Dee Sortor, Rodney Dale Sortor (Kim) and Rocky Doyle Sortor (Heidi); a daughter, Ruby Renae Sortor; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and 18 first cousins. Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm.
