Beverly Jean Hope

February 25, 1939 — April 19, 2021

Beverly Jean Bertelsen Hope, age 82, Pocatello resident, passed away on April 19, 2021. Bev was born in Pocatello, Idaho on February 25, 1939, the daughter of Charles Bertelsen and Hazel (Hancock) Bertelsen. She received her education in Pocatello, attending grade school as well as Pocatello High School. Bev was always so proud that she was the only female who took honors math while attending high school.

While in school, Bev worked in a grocery store as a checker. The summer after graduating high school, Bev worked at the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. In the fall of 1957, she returned to Pocatello and went to work for the Mountain States Telephone Company as an operator.

Beverly married Don Hope on September 2, 1964. Beverly and Don made Pocatello their home.

Beverly began a career with Prudential Insurance in 1963. She learned at a young age to work hard and to always do the best job possible. In 1966, Bev was promoted to the Office Manager of the Prudential Pocatello District Office. Her long career with Prudential lasted 40 years. She was a wonderful mentor and her wisdom and kindness was appreciated by all who worked with her. Bev was the ultimate perfectionist and expected excellence from everyone around her.

Bev had a passion for playing golf and cards. She could be found on the golf course almost every day. She excelled at, and had a God given gift, for numbers which enabled her to be very proficient with a deck of cards. She was affectionately known as the "card ass" and showed no mercy when beating her grandchildren in a game of Old Maid!

Beverly's children, grandchildren and great grand children were the light of her life. She always spent time with them and encouraged them to do the very best that they could in school, sports, and to live their best life. She stated many times that her biggest accomplishment was that all 3 of her children graduated from college.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers William and Robert Bertelsen. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Don Hope, and children Kim Magagna (Steve), Jennifer Lepshenske ( Kirk), Ryan Hope (Amanda), 9 -grand children: Christine, Mitchell, Olivia, Noah, Anna, Garrett, Carlee, Everly, and Lillian, 2 and a half great-grand children : Maxwell, Leah, and baby boy Magagna on the way.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11am, at Wilks Funeral Home. Per Bev's request, there will be no viewing.

Beverly was an inspiration to all. Those that knew her, loved her dearly and will miss her immensely. They will also know that she would expect everyone to wear pearls to the funeral.
